Lorene Wood

Lorene Wood, age 76, of Coweta passed from this life on Friday morning, June 20, 2008 at Mayfair Nursing Center in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Lorene was born on September 19, 1931 in Coweta, Oklahoma to Tilmon H. and Beulah (Medford) Poplin. She received her education in the Broken Arrow school system. She and John T. Wood were united in marriage on August 22, 1946 in Coweta and after more than 60 years together, he preceded her in death on July 31, 2007. Lorene was a homemaker for most of her life. She also worked as a custodian at Coweta Public Schools for 20 years until her retirement in 1995. She was a member at the First Christian Church in Coweta. Lorene's hobbies included cooking, sewing, crocheting, gardening, and she enjoyed babies. Left behind to cherish her memories is one son, Johnny Wood and his wife, Karen, of Coweta; four daughters, Nancy Boston and her husband, Jerry, of Coweta, Cathy Chance of the home, Patricia Meadows and her husband, George, of Coweta, and Lisa Watkins and her husband, Clyde, of Broken Arrow; one brother, Harold Lloyd Poplin of Hartford, Connecticut; two sisters, Lilly Mae McGill of Colorado and Josie Brasier of Claremore; 12 grandchildren; 25 great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, six brothers, and one sister. Funeral services were held at 3:00 p.m. on Monday, June 23, 2008 at the First Baptist Church in Coweta with Rev. David Jones and John M. Howard officiating. Burial will follow at Vernon Cemetery under the direction of Wright Funeral Home.
