Lois C. Poindexter

Lois Carole Poindexter passed away on Monday, May 27, 2019 after battling complications of congestive heart failure. She believed in Jesus Christ as her personal savior and was prepared and ready to meet her Heavenly Father. Lois was born on the Carter Oil Lease in Dix, IL to Ross and Lois Haught on August 1, 1940. The family moved to Nicoma Park, OK in her early infancy, where she grew up in and around this suburb of Oklahoma City. She attended Choctaw High School, where she was a majorette, played basketball and participated actively in various clubs and organizations. She graduated from Choctaw High in May 1958 and went to work as a telephone operator for Southwestern Bell Telephone to put her husband through college and to help support their young family. Lois and her growing family lived in Tahlequah and Westville, OK before moving to Coweta, OK, where she was a full-time mother and eventually worked at Prestolite in Wagoner, where she worked her way into a management position. She later worked for 11 years as the Customer Service Manager at the original Coweta Wal-Mart. Lois built a large circle of friends while raising her family in Coweta. She was athletic and played volleyball and was on a bowling league for many years. For 30+ years, she played bridge monthly with the same group of friends. She enjoyed attending Coweta Football games and all sporting events. In her later years, she traveled around the United States with her long-time friends and especially enjoyed the historic sites in Boston and hot air ballooning and horseback riding in Durango, Colorado. The New England Patriots was her team; she would almost certainly have accepted a marriage proposal from Tom Brady. She was an avid OSU Cowboys fan and rarely missed a televised game. She retired from Wal-Mart in 2005 and relocated to Henderson, Nevada with her son and daughter-in-law. She made good friends, sought out the luckiest nickel slots and traveled in and around the area with her good neighbors and friends. She returned to live in OK briefly before moving to Arkansas. She had a love of thoroughbred horse racing and attended the Arkansas Derby most years and watched the other major races on television, up to and including the 2019 Kentucky Derby. She was excited to move back to Coweta in February 2019, where she looked forward to reconnecting with old friends and living near her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Lois was preceded in death by her parents, William Ross Haught and Lois Eileen Haught, her siblings, Barbara Ann Haught and Jonny Wray Haught, and her eldest child, Joe Scott Poindexter. She is survived by her brother, Donald Ross Haught, and her two daughters, Kelley Ann Moore and Sherry Lynn Fronterhouse. Surviving grandchildren include Josh Poindexter, Tara Hatfield, Nikki Boulware, Jake Walker, Adam Fuller and Cliff Fronterhouse. Surviving great-grandchildren include Gunner, Jamie and Noah Boulware, Cayden Walker, Henry and Jack Poindexter, Grant, Colt and Sawyer Hatfield and Edith, Abel and Mordecai Fuller. Surviving nieces and nephews include David, Donnie, Jon and Andy Haught and niece, Darla Haught Goodson. Lois was an incredibly generous person; she was known to put the needs of others before her own and was happiest when those she loved were happy. No matter where she lived, she made friends easily and built a "family" for herself. Her loyalty was a gift to all who loved her; if you were good to those she loved, she loved you. She was loved deeply by her family and friends and will be greatly missed. To honor Lois' wishes, there will be a private family memorial service.
