Larry Dale Walker

July 15, 1945 — August 13, 2011

August 13, 2011 Larry Dale Walker was born on July 15, 1945 in Okemah, OK to Paul and Jean Walker. He passed away on May 20 in Pryor, OK. Larry grew up in the Haydonville community, and attended Okfuskee grade school, graduating with the 8th grade class. Even though Larry had Cerebral Palsy, he knew no boundaries. He loved life; and sports, especially the Okemah Panthers and the University of Oklahoma. His other passions included W.W.F. wrestling, riding his 3-wheel motorcycle, country music and going to the casino. Larry had goals and dreams and most of them were fulfilled. He always wanted to have a job and was an exceptional employee, earning the coveted "Employee of the Year" for Tulsa, OK. During his career that spanned over two decades, he worked at Bill's Grocery in Broken Arrow, Oral Roberts University and Wal-Mart. Larry was active in the People's First of Oklahoma, where he served as Sergeant-at-Arms. One of his other dreams was to have his own house. For several years, he lived in an apartment in Broken Arrow. After a difficult surgery four years ago, Larry was no longer able to work or walk, and moved in with his sister angel, Cleta Myrick of Chouteau. Larry is survived by five sisters: Cleta Myrick of Chouteau, Sharon Richard and husband Norman of Towanda, KS, Glinna Fleming and husband Tom of Locust Grove, Brenda Simmons and husband Tim of Tulsa and Marilyn Harmon and husband Steve of Blackwell. Larry also has several nieces and nephews and great-nieces and nephews that meant the world to him. He was preceded in death by his parents Paul and Jean Walker; his brother Bobby Walker; and three infant siblings. In lieu of flowers the family request that donations be made to the Haydonville Fire Station, Rt. 1, Box 188, Okemah, OK 74859, where Larry had enjoyed numerous celebrations including his 60th birthday party. Visitations: 5-7PM Saturday, May 22 at Kennedy-Amis-Kennard Funeral Service in Broken Arrow and 5-7PM Sunday, May 23 at Park Brothers Funeral Home in Okemah; Celebration of Life 2PM Monday, May 24 at Okemah Assembly of God; interment: Tuskegee Cemetery in Slick.
