Larry Thomas Powell

Larry Thomas Powell, age 74, longtime Broken Arrow, Oklahoma resident went to be with his Lord and Savior on Thursday, October 7, 2021 at the OU Medical Center in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.  Larry was born on January 8, 1947 in Cedar Vale, Kansas and was the son of Thomas Sylvester and Joy Lee (Jennings) Powell.  He graduated high school from Atlanta, Georgia in 1964.  Larry proudly served in the United States Air Force as a Level 5 Jet Engine Mechanic with the 70th Field Maintenance Squadron.  While serving he worked on the B-52 Model Bombers and the KC-135 Fueler-Tanker-SAC Strategic Air Command.  Larry married the love of his life, Doris Jean Powell in March of 1972.  He worked for Beach Aircraft and held various sales jobs before starting work with Becco Contractors in 1998.  Larry retired as an Equipment Superintendent for Becco in 2012.  He was a faithful member of Sunnyside Baptist Church in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma from 1982-2020 when he moved his membership to Community Baptist Church in Coweta, Oklahoma.  Larry was a teacher of God’s word.  He served with the Mission Service Corps from 2004 -2012.  Larry was known for his mechanic skills.  He enjoyed going to the lake, camping, fishing, and going on trips to Branson with his wife, Doris.

Larry is survived by his son, TJ Powell and his wife Kelie of Coweta, Oklahoma; his daughter, DD Bristol and her husband Parris of Coweta, Oklahoma; ten grandchildren, Butch Powell, Hunter Powell, Gavin Powell, Brittnee Roark, Noah Bristol, Madalyn Bristol, Nathan Bristol, Dakota Bristol, Kyle Payne, and Curtis Payne; six great grandchildren, Gracie Bristol, Hudson Bristol, Hazel Bristol, Kentley Payne, KB Payne, and PJ Roark; three sisters, Carol Joyce Sims of Collinsville, Oklahoma, Marilyn Hawkins of Mansfield, Missouri, and Glenda Rhodes of Mansfield, Missouri; and  numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends.

Larry was preceded in death by his wife, Doris Jean Powell; his parents, Thomas Sylvester and Joy Lee Powell; and his son, Thomas Loren Powell.

Visitation will be from 6:00-8:00 PM on Wednesday, October 13, 2021 at Brown Funeral Home in Coweta, Oklahoma.  Services celebrating Larry’s life will be at 2:00 PM on Thursday, October 14, 2021 at Community Baptist Church in Coweta, Oklahoma with Pastor Adam Mask and Rev. Roland Whitehurst officiating.  Larry will be laid to rest at 11:00 AM on Monday, October 18, 2021 at the Fort Gibson National Cemetery in Fort Gibson, Oklahoma.
