Kermit Dale Hoffmeier, age 79, of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, December 26, 2021. Kermit was born October 1, 1942 in Garnett, Kansas. He was the son of Henry and Marie Hoffmeier of Colony, Kansas. His dad taught him how to work hard from an early age. By the time he was five years old, Kermit was driving the hay truck helping his father. At age ten, Kermit owned a tractor and was working in the fields alongside his dad. He raised his own cattle and saved his money to buy a car at age 16. While in high school, Kermit loved being in leadership roles. He was Colony High School Student Council President, Anderson County 4-H Council member, a school newspaper member, and a starter on the basketball team.
At age 17, he joined the Navy as an Air Traffic Controller on the USS Essex. After his Navy service, he was a NASCAR driver for Anco Wiper blades. Kermit’s passion for adventure continued owning and flying airplanes. He had a Wacco, an antique airplane, that he flew to many airshows across the United States, and even hosted airshows at his own private landing strip in Kearney, Missouri. For over forty years, Kermit owned a Piper Cherokee 6 PA-32 that he called the “Tweety Bird”. Kermit logged over 6,000 of flight hours.
In 1971, Kermit founded Royal Transport, Inc. in Kansas City, Missouri and later sold the company to KAW Transport. In 1982, Kermit founded Hoffmeier, Inc. and relocated to Tulsa, Oklahoma. As a successful businessman, Kermit owned environmental, leasing, and real estate businesses. Kermit’s policy of honesty, hard work, and paying others before yourself helped his businesses flourish.
Kermit had a passion for helping others and giving back to the community. Serving 46 years, Kermit became a 3rd degree Master Mason on May 22, 1974 in Kansas City, Missouri. He was a current member of the Millennium Masonic Lodge in Tulsa, Oklahoma and served as treasurer for numerous years. Kermit was proud of earning the Mason of the Year award at the Millennium Lodge. Kermit earned his 32nd degree at the Shrine in Kansas CIty, Missouri in June 1974. Kermit was also a Scottish Rite member in 1974. Kermit many years later moved his memberships to Tulsa, Oklahoma.
Kermit was a member of the Tulsa Royal Order of Jesters. He spent time serving on the Broken Arrow Salvation Army Boys and Girls Club Board of Directors and North Tulsa Rotary Club. Through the Rotary Foundation of Rotary International, Kermit was awarded the Paul Harris Fellow.
Kermit was preceded in death by his parents Henry and Marie Hoffmeier; his past wives and nephew. Recently, Kermit’s partner, Beth Yates Chappell unexpectedly passed away on January 10, 2022.
Kermit is survived by his daughters Mimi Bauer, Tina Wheeler, Kerri Robinson, Rhonda Murray, Robin Bayer, and son Russell Hoffmeier. Kermit has five granddaughters, three grandsons and four great-grandchildren and numerous great nieces and nephews. Kermit is also survived by his sister Kay Axtell.
Kermit Hoffmeier’s memorial service will be held at Brown’s Funeral Home on Friday, January 29, 2022 at 1:30 PM in Broken Arrow Oklahoma. If desired, friends and family can contribute to the Shriners Children’s Hospitals at www.donate.lovetotherescue.org in place of flowers.
