Kenneth Drew Watson, a cherished father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully at his home in Coweta, OK, on Friday morning, May 10, 2024, at the age of 77 years. He was born on August 21, 1946, in Muskogee, OK to Fred and Melinda “Mae” (Victory) Watson. He lived a full and vibrant life that touched many.
Kenneth's journey began in Coweta, where he was a proud graduate of Coweta High School in 1964. His early years in Coweta laid the foundation for a life characterized by dedication and service. Kenneth answered the call of duty and became a proud veteran of the United States Army, serving his country with distinction from June 1964 to May 1967 and again from January 1969 to August 1971.
Following his military service, Kenneth built a successful career, working at the Oklahoma Turnpike Authority, Muncie Power Products as a machinist, and in the records division at Arkansas Valley State Bank and Bank of Oklahoma until his retirement. His work ethic and commitment to excellence were evident in every task he undertook.
Kenneth's life was rich with hobbies and interests that reflected his love for the outdoors and his creative spirit. He found joy in leathercraft, postcard collecting, and nature. An avid traveler, he also enjoyed square dancing, bird watching, camping, and fishing, sharing these passions with family and friends.
He is survived by a loving family that includes his five children, Myra Gawf of Coweta, OK, Danny Watson of Tulsa, OK, Mary Flatt and husband Daniel of Claremore, OK, James Watson and wife Michelle of Claremore, OK, and Marla Watson of Claremore, OK,. His legacy continues through his seven grandchildren, Kaylin Gawf, Alyssa Gawf, Trey Gawf, Logan Flatt, Jamie Watson, Megan Watson, and Kylie Flatt; and three great-grandchildren, Jayc'lynn Lester, Memphis Lester, and Zayvion Gawf. He also leaves behind two brothers, Thomas Watson and wife Sandy of Fort Gibson, OK, and Mickael Watson of Porter, OK; the mother of his children, Karla Watson of Claremore, OK; his beloved dogs, Heifer and Dolly; and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends who will miss him dearly.
Kenneth was preceded in death by his mother and stepfather, Melinda "Mae" (Victory) and Bert Walker; his father, Fred Watson; his grandparents, Doc and Becky Victory; his brothers, Larry Watson, David Watson, and Kelly Walker; his sister, Kathis Earnhardt; and several aunts and uncles. His memory will be honored by all who knew him as a man of integrity, kindness, and generosity.
Kenneth's life was a journey of love, service, and commitment to the things he held dear. His memory will live on in the hearts of those he leaves behind, and his spirit will continue to inspire us all.
Visitation for Kenneth will be held from 12:00 - 8:00 PM on Wednesday, May 15, 2024, at Brown Funeral Home in Coweta, OK. Services celebrating his life will take place at 11:00 AM on Thursday, May 16, 2024, at Brown Funeral Home Chapel in Coweta, OK. Kenneth will be laid to rest with full military honors at Fort Gibson National Cemetery in Fort Gibson, OK, where his service to his country will be commemorated.
