Kenneth Saunders

Kenneth Dale Saunders, age 62, of Coweta departed from this life on Monday evening, July 26, 2010 at his residence. He was born on November 14, 1947 in Henryetta, OK to Homer Emet and Edna Margie (Kennedy) Saunders. Kenneth was a loving husband, son, father, brother, and grandfather to his family. He graduated from Wilson High School and then attended Northeastern State University where he received his master's degree in teaching. Kenneth and Janna Yates were united in marriage on May 27, 1972 in Henryetta, OK. They came to the Coweta area from Tahlequah, OK in 1975. Kenneth was a history teacher at Coweta High School for 29 years until he retired in 1999. Kenneth served in the United States Army. He was a member of the Wilson Baptist Church and the Emmanuel Southern Baptist Church in Coweta, OK. Kenneth was a co-founder and member of the Men's Golf Association. He enjoyed golfing and landscaping. Kenneth will be missed by his family and friends. Kenneth is lovingly survived by his wife of 38 years, Janna of the home; his son, Kristopher Saunders and his wife, Tammy, of Broken Arrow, OK; his daughter, Kara Castillo and her husband, Richard, of Oklahoma City, OK; his mother, Edna Margie (Kennedy) Saunders of Wilson, OK; four brothers, Wendell Saunders of Coweta, OK, Homer Saunders, Jr. of Salina, OK, Johnny Saunders of Little Rock, AR, and Joey Saunders of Tulsa, OK; two sisters, LaDana Christy of Schulter, OK and Sandra Tillotson of Coweta, OK; five grandchildren, Kelsey Saunders, Adam Saunders, Kenneth Saunders, Makayla Castillo, and Maya Castillo; and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and a host of friends. Kenneth was preceded in death by his father, Homer Emet Saunders. Funeral services will be at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, July 30, 2010 at First Baptist Church in Coweta, OK with Pastor Dennis Yates and Rev. George Christy officiating.
