Kenneth Oscar Hughes, age 85, lifelong Coweta resident went to be with his Lord and Savior on Friday morning, December 4, 2020 at his home in Coweta, Oklahoma surrounded by his daughters.  Kenneth was born on December 26, 1934 in Coweta, Oklahoma and was the son of Oscar Curtis and Ruth Mae (Bryan) Hughes.

Kenneth attended Liberty School and Coweta Public Schools where he was a 1952 graduate of Coweta High School.  After graduating, he attended Bacone College for two years and played football and boxed.  Kenneth was a proud veteran of the United States Army, serving in the Korean War era and was an Army Intelligence Officer.  He entered the Army on October 22, 1954 and was honorably discharged on October 2, 1957.  Kenneth married the love of his life, Wanda Ellen Burrows on September 26, 1958 in Tulsa, Oklahoma.  He was a mail carrier for the United States Postal Service for over 35 years until he retired on April 12, 1991.  Kenneth was a faithful member of the First Christian Church in Coweta where he was a song leader for many years.  He enjoyed sports, fishing, golfing, coaching, singing, and working on the farm with his dad and brothers.  His love for God was evident in how he loved and cared for his family and those around him.  Because of God’s love in his life, he will live on in the hearts of those that knew and loved him.

Kenneth is survived by his two daughters, Lori Ross and husband Michael of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma and Debbie Replogle and husband Derrick of Coweta, Oklahoma; three brothers, Paul Hughes of Coweta, Oklahoma, Bryan Hughes and wife Peggy of Coweta, Oklahoma, and Dennis Hughes of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma; one sister, Barbara Hobbs of Coweta, Oklahoma; three grandsons, Zachary Hall, Vincent Giles, and Kyle Replogle; and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

Kenneth was preceded in death by his wife, Wanda Ellen Hughes; his parents, Oscar Curtis and Ruth Mae Hughes; one brother, Jim Hughes; and one sister, Ophelia Swartwood.

Viewing will be from 9:00 AM – 8:00 PM on Tuesday, December 8, 2020 at Brown Funeral Home with the family present to receive friends from 5:00 – 7:00 PM.  Services celebrating Kenneth’s life will be at 2:00 PM on Wednesday, December 9, 2020 at the First Christian Church in Coweta, Oklahoma with Pastor Jeff King officiating.  Kenneth will be laid to rest at Vernon Cemetery in Coweta, Oklahoma.  Pallbearers are Mike Hughes, Kyle Replogle, Matt Hughes, Greg Thompson, Bryan Burrows, and Robbie Burrows.  Honorary Pallbearers are Paul Hughes, Bryan Hughes, Dennis Hughes, Gordon Burrows, Richard Burrows, Kenny Burrows, Brent Hughes, Joe Cash, and Eddie Bowman.
