Kenneth Harvey Geabhart, affectionately known as Ken to his friends and loved ones, passed away on Wednesday, November 13, 2024, in Claremore, Oklahoma. He was born on November 25, 1945, in Albuquerque, New Mexico. His early years in Albuquerque were followed by a move to Newton, Kansas, where he completed his education at Newton High School. Ken’s life was a remarkable journey that touched the hearts of many.
Ken's roots traced back to Newton, Kansas, where his family settled after his father Harvey took an executive role at Santa Fe Railroad. It was in Newton where Ken's foundational values of faith, integrity, and adventure were nurtured. These values stayed with him as he married the love of his life, Carol, and together they embarked on a life filled with love, adventure, and family. Ken served in the United States Air Force. His military service led them to Fairbanks, Alaska. After his honorable discharge, they relocated back in Kansas, before eventually settling in Claremore, Oklahoma to raise their two daughters, Laura Hanoch and Leslie Youngker.
An adventurous soul, Ken found joy in the skies. He received his pilot's license at a young age and even owned his own plane. Ken and Carol became avid lovers of the outdoors, experiencing lake life through boating, camping, and fishing. They also found joy in more extreme adventures together such as scuba diving, spear fishing and bear hunting. He took a special interest in piloting remote-controlled airplanes with the Tulsa Gluedobbers Club.
His faith played a central role in his life, as seen through his active participation in prison ministry with the Christian Motorcycle Association and his involvement with Promise Keepers Men's Ministry. Ken's commitment to his faith was further solidified when he was baptized at the First Baptist Church in Claremore, Oklahoma. Ken volunteered his Sundays at the Claremore Veterans Center, helping disabled veterans.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Harvey and Wilma (Ravenscroft) Geabhart, and his sister Donna Geabhart Holmes.
Those left to cherish his memory are his beloved wife Carol Geabhart, his daughter Laura Hanoch and husband Heath of Tulsa, and daughter Leslie Youngker and her husband Randal of Broken Arrow. In addition to his treasured grandchildren; Hayden Hanoch, Taylor Hanoch, Brady Youngker, and Brooke Youngker. Ken's departure from this world leaves a void in the hearts of his loved ones, but his spirit will forever soar high, much like the remote-controlled planes he so loved to fly.
A service honoring Ken will be held on Monday November 25, 2024, at 2:00 pm, at the Claremore Veterans Center Chapel, 3001 Bluestar Drive, Claremore, Oklahoma, 74017, officiated by Chaplain Steve Griffith.
