Elizabeth Kay Ward, affectionately known as “Kay” or “Kay Kay”, passed away at her home in Coweta, OK, on Saturday, October 19, 2024, her 71st birthday. She was born on October 19, 1953, in Springfield, MO to JB and Mary Louise (Nichols) Kirby. Kay's life was marked by her vibrant spirit, her dedication to her family, and her love for life's simple pleasures.
Kay attended Ozark High School in Ozark, MO, where she formed lifelong friendships and developed a work ethic that would serve her well throughout her life. Kay married Ron Ward on April 19, 1992. Together, they built a life filled with love and laughter in Coweta, OK, where they have resided since.
Professionally, Kay was known for her compassionate care and warm demeanor. She dedicated 18 years of her life to serving as a certified medical assistant, first at Coweta Manor Nursing Home for 7 years and then at The Village Health Care Center in Broken Arrow for 11 years. Her colleagues and the residents she cared for became an extended family, all of whom benefited from her nurturing presence.
Kay's zest for life was evident in her varied interests. She had a passion for horses and barrel racing, often found cheering at rodeos. Her joy was palpable when she was dancing or trying her luck at gambling. Above all, Kay's heart belonged to her cherished dogs, who were her constant companions and brought her immeasurable happiness.
Family was the cornerstone of Kay's life. She is survived by her devoted husband, Ron Ward of Coweta, OK; her son, Mike Homan of Coweta, OK; and her adored five grandchildren. Her legacy continues through her siblings: Shirley Kirby of Nixa, MO, Nancy Lacy of Cape Fair, MO, Kelly Kirby (Karen) of London, KY, Bill Kirby of Ozark, MO, Randy Kirby of Warsaw, MO, and Mary Jo Kirby of Nixa, MO. A host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives also mourn her passing.
