Kathryn Gillenwater

Kathryn Linn Gillenwater, longtime resident of Coweta, age 78, passed away peacefully Tuesday evening, December 18, 2012 at Kindred Hospital in Tulsa, OK. Kathryn was born on July 30, 1934 in Sayre, OK and was the daughter of Edward and Urcy "Kit" (Redding) Linn. Kathryn met Bert Gillenwater at a diner in Sayre, OK and were united in marriage on May 11, 1952 in Tucumcari, New Mexico. In December of 1967, she and Bert moved to the Coweta area. Kathryn worked at St. Francis Hospital as a nurse tech in NICU for 23 years until she retired in 1996. She loved taking care of the babies in the NICU. Kathryn enjoyed gardening, reading, working crossword puzzles and she loved spending time with her family and grandchildren. Kathryn will be missed as a loving and caring wife, mother, sister, grandmother, great grandmother, aunt and friend. Kathryn is lovingly survived by her husband, Bert Gillenwater of the home; her son, Dennis Gillenwater of Sayre, OK; her daughters, Juanita Edwards of Broken Arrow, OK, Margie Gillenwater of Tulsa, OK, Sharon Reed and husband, Terry, of Porter, OK, Diana Fletcher and husband, Garry, of Chattanooga, TN and Carol Parker and husband, Robert, of Tulsa, OK; her sister, Helen Martin and partner, Joyce Powell, of Bedford, TX; her brothers, Wylie Linn and wife, Carla, of Wichita Falls, TX and James Linn and wife, Leanne, of Vernon, TX; her grandchildren, Jason Gillenwater and wife, Lisa, of Ocean Springs, MS, Jeffrey Edwards and wife, Jenni, of Bixby, OK, Les Reed of Thorton, CO, Annie Gillenwater of Tulsa, OK, Amanda Voyles and husband, Rusty, of Coweta, OK, Julie Edwards of Monroe, MI and Lauren, Lindsey, Madison and Michael Fletcher of Chattanooga, TN; her great grandchildren, Lane and Caitlin Gillenwater of Ocean Springs, MS, Allison, Maggie, Luke and Evie Edwards of Bixby, OK and Ava and Michael (Mikey) Voyles of Coweta, OK; and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Kathryn was preceded in death by her parents, her sister, Rosella (Rosie) Linn and her grandson, Daren Young. The family will greet friends at the funeral home on Friday evening, December 21, 2012 from 6:00 to 8:00 PM. Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 PM Saturday, December 22, 2012 at Wright-Brown Funeral Home Chapel in Coweta, OK with Pastor Brian Gilbert officiating. Burial will follow in Vernon Cemetery in Coweta. Pallbearers are Jason Gillenwater, Lane Gillenwater, Rusty Voyles, Jeff Edwards, Les Reed, Garry Fletcher and Michael Fletcher.
