Katherine Elizabeth Swayne, affectionately known as Kathy, passed away peacefully on Wednesday evening, November 15, 2023, at St. John Medical Center in Tulsa, OK at the age of 81 years. She was born on June 1, 1942, in Sumner, IL to Chris Heinz and Tillie Marie (Comstock) Abell. Kathy was a beloved wife mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and sister.
Kathy devoted her life to her family. She married Eddie Crosby and together they had three daughters, Vanessa Wynne (Robert) of The Woodlands, TX, Teala McKenzie (Mark) of Broken Arrow, OK, and Katrina Doyal (Mike Meadows) of Tulsa, OK. In 1993, she married Donald Dean Swayne, who brought four children into their blended family, Don Swayne (Lee), Judy Taylor (Lee), Russell Swayne, and Janice Griffin (Dan). Kathy was blessed with nine grandchildren, Tiffany Lathram (Travis), Christopher Wynne (Brittany), Michael Wynne (Melissa), James McKenzie, Cody McKenzie (Emily), Shea McKenzie, Steven Doyal (Kaylynn), Sevren Doyal (Kayla), and Kaitlyn Doyal and twelve great-grandchildren, Trevor, Taylor, Peyton, Madison, Hunter, Lincoln, Harper, Charlotte, Peyton, CJ, Kennedy, and Jax, who were the light of her life. She is also survived by her sister, Jean Thomson of Lancaster, IL, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Kathy was preceded in death by her parents, Chris Heinz and Tillie Marie Abell, and her brother, Don Abell.
A 1959 graduate of Bridgeport High School in Bridgeport, IL, Kathy began her career as a telephone operator at General Telephone in Illinois. She later transitioned into banking, working at First National Bank in Broken Arrow and retiring from Fourth National Bank in Tulsa.
Kathy had a passion for quilting and gardening, with a special fondness for flowers. She was an avid bingo player and loved shopping for unique treasures and dolls. Kathy was also known for her dancing and bowling skills, often captivating everyone around her with her energy and enthusiasm. She cherished her time at Cedarhurst Senior Living, where she enjoyed playing bingo, crafting, corn hole, and Wii bowling with her friends.
Kathy's life was a testament to her love for her family and her zest for life. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her. Her legacy will live on in the hearts and memories of her family and friends.
A visitation for Kathy will be held from 10:00 to 11:00 AM on Saturday, November 18, 2023, followed by a funeral service at 11:00 AM at the Brown Funeral Home Chapel in Broken Arrow, OK. She will be laid to rest at the Jennings Cemetery in Jennings, Oklahoma.
