Junior Kirkland, age 94, longtime Coweta resident departed this life on Sunday evening, January 10, 2021 at St. Francis Hospital in Muskogee, Oklahoma. Junior was born on September 1, 1926 in Bixby, Oklahoma and was the son of Self and Ola (Bebee) Kirkland. He married Wilma Maudeen Victory and then he married Opal Snelson on November 2, 1979 in Wagoner, Oklahoma and she preceded him in death. Junior was a mineworker for many years and was a heavy equipment operator. He also worked at a furniture store in Van Buren, Arkansas. Junior enjoyed gardening, mowing, playing dominoes and cards, and he loved spending time with his family.
Junior is survived by his daughter, Wilma Victory of Porter, Oklahoma; one grandson, DeWayne Lee Curtis and wife Jennifer of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma; three great grandchildren, Cody, Dillon, and Dustin Curtis; four great-great grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
Junior was preceded in death by his wife, Opal Snelson; his parents, Self and Ola Kirkland; three brothers; and one sister.
Visitation will be from 12:00 – 6:00 PM on Sunday, January 17, 2021 at Brown Funeral Home. Graveside services celebrating Junior’s life will be at 11:00 AM on Monday, January 18, 2021 at Vernon Cemetery in Coweta, Oklahoma with Pastor Ron Spradlin officiating.
