Joy Maxine Duncan

Joy Maxine Duncan of Coweta, OK, age 84, stepped out of this world from the Senior Suites Healthcare Community in Broken Arrow, OK and into heaven on September 22, 2016 at the age of 84 years and 4 days. She was born on September 18, 1932 to Herman Albert and Blanche (Boyd) Adams at the family home near Cumberland City, TN. She graduated from the W.T. Thomas School in Cumberland City, where she was the senior class salutatorian and an all-star basketball player. Maxine was married on July 17, 1950 to John Thomas Duncan in Detroit, MI. One son, Larry, was born to their union. In January, 1954 the Duncan's moved to Cleveland, TN when Tom was appointed as the International Director of Communications Ministries for the Church of God of Prophecy. For more than 40 years Maxine worked tirelessly at his side duplicating and mailing tens of thousands of audio tapes of the Voice of Salvation broadcast to hundreds of radio stations around the world. Maxine served nearly fifty years as a soprano in the Peerless Road Church of God of Prophecy Adult Choir in Cleveland. She was a long-time member of the volunteer auxiliary at Bradley Memorial Hospital. Her mission in life was to help others and care for anyone in need. She was a second mother to many teenagers and a second grandmother to many children, and all of them could testify to her skills as a cook. In 2013 she and Tom moved to Coweta, OK and became members of the Coweta Church of God of Prophecy. Maxine was preceded in death by her husband, her father and mother, five sisters and one brother. She is survived by one son, Larry and wife Susan of Coweta, OK; one grandson, John and wife Leia of Waco, TX; one granddaughter, Laura Weldon of Broken Arrow, OK; one great grandson, Matthew Allen Corn of Broken Arrow, OK, two sisters, Jenny Ruth McElroy of Sarasota, FL, and Bette Morrow of Clarksville, TN; three brothers, Charles Finis Adams of Stone Mountain, GA, Percy Lee Adams of Fishers, IN, and Virgil Parrott of Lawrenceville, GA; two sisters-in-law, a large number of nephews, nieces, and a multitude of friends. The family will receive friends in Oklahoma at the Wright-Brown Funeral Home in Coweta, OK on Tuesday, September 27 from 6:00-8:00 PM. The memorial service will be held at the Peerless Road Church of God of Prophecy in Cleveland, TN on Friday, September 30. The family will receive friends beginning at 12:00 PM and the memorial service will begin at 1:00 PM with Bishop Sam N. Clements, Bishop Fred S. Fisher, Sr. and Bishop Timothy D. Coalter officiating.
