Joseph "Joe" A. Murdock, age 89, life-long resident of Coweta passed away peacefully, Tuesday morning, September 24, 2013 at this home in Coweta, OK. Joe was born on March 12, 1924 in Coweta, OK and was the son of John A. and Blanche (Higgins) Murdock. He was a graduate of Coweta High School. Joe was a proud veteran of the United States Army where he received the Purple Heart. He enlisted in the Army on February 11, 1943 and was honorably discharged on August 17, 1945. Joe and Opal Culp were united in marriage on December 7, 1953 in Van Buren, AR. Joe worked at the United States Postal Service in Tulsa, OK as a Maintenance Supervisor for 26 years until he retired in 1986. Joe was a member of the Coweta American Legion #226, the Disabled American Veterans in Coweta, the Coweta Masonic Lodge #251 and the Veterans of Foreign Wars in Broken Arrow. Joe enjoyed camping, traveling, wood working and doing yard work. Joe is survived by his wife of 59 years, Opal Murdock of the home in Coweta; his son, Douglas Murdock and wife, Ruth, of Broken Arrow, OK; 3 sisters, Bonnie Braughm of Houston, TX, Mary Ann Medlock of Claremore, OK and Betty Brunette of Dardanelle, AR; 1 brother, Louis Murdock of Broken Arrow, OK; 5 grandchildren, Steven Murdock of Coweta, OK, Joseph Murdock and wife, Brandy, of Tulsa, OK, Roger Denton and wife, Karen, of Tulsa, OK, Jonathan Jacobs and Jesse Jacobs; 6 great grandchildren, Trina Joe Murdock who was raised by Joe and Opal, T.J. Glory, Hannah Glory, Morgan Elizabeth Murdock, Zachary Murdock and Kyla Jacobs; a great granddaughter on the way, Madison; and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Joe was preceded in death by his parents, John and Blanche Murdock, 2 brothers, John Murdock and Victor Murdock and 2 sisters, Nellie Puckett and Dolly Woffard. Viewing will be Friday morning, September 27, 2013 from 9:00 am to 12:00 pm at the funeral home. Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 pm Friday, September 27, 2013 at the First Baptist Church in Coweta, OK with Rev. David Jones. Burial with full military honors will follow at Vernon Cemetery in Coweta. Pallbearers are Danny Wright, Ronnie Wright, Randall Wright, Dee Culp, Dale Culp and Mike Culp.
