Johnny Lee Matthews, age 72, of Coweta passed away on Monday, May 16, 2016 at his home surrounded by his family. Johnny was born on January 6, 1944 in Exeter, Calif. to John and Sarah Mae (Tarry) Matthews. John attended school in Sapulpa. He served in the United States Army National Guard from 1960-1962. John worked at Braden Winch in Machine Maintenance for 35 years. On December 22, 1980, he married Mary Lou (Meeks) Tyler in Poteau, Okla. His hobbies included fishing, gardening, collecting guns and knives and shopping QVC. John was preceded in death by both of his parents, 2 sons, Robert Matthews and Justin Shane Matthews, 1 grandson, Stephen Matthews, 3 brothers and 2 sisters. He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Mary Matthews of the home; 6 sons, Michael Noyes and wife, Lucinda of Munford, Tenn., Johnny Matthews Jr. of Tulsa, Okla., Luther Matthews of Tulsa, Okla., Kevin Matthews of Bella Vista, Ark., Randall Tyler and wife, Judy of Coweta, Okla. and Roger Tyler and wife, Kim of Coweta, Okla.; 4 daughters, Tracy Lawson and husband, Rob of Broken Arrow, Okla., Eva Pool of Coweta, Okla., Kathy Killion and husband, Terry of Morris, Okla. and Lori Byrd and husband, Kent of Coweta, Okla.; 1 sister, Loretta Jones of Sapulpa, Okla.; 33 grandchildren; 38 great grandchildren; 1 great-great grandchild; and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Viewing for John will be from 2-8 PM on Wednesday, May 18, 2016 at Wright-Brown Family Funeral Home with the family present from 6-8 PM. Services celebrating John's life will be at 2 PM on Thursday, May 19, 2016 at Porter Freewill Baptist Church in Porter, Okla. with Rev. Bobby Jenkins officiating. Burial will follow in Vernon Cemetery in Coweta. Pallbearers are Dustin Noyes, Brian Matthews, Jonathan Noyes, Darrell Mensch, Justin Holmes and Jason Holmes. Honorary Pallbearers are Matt Killion, Josh Pool, Kyle Byrd, Randy Tyler and Dallas Tyler. Family and friends may share memories online at www.brownfamilyfuneralhome.com.
