John Howell "Jh" Winters, Jr.

John Howell Winters, Jr., affectionately known as JH, passed away peacefully on Thursday, August 24, 2023, in Muskogee, OK. He was born on December 8, 1930, in Erick, OK to John Howell Winters, Sr. and Mary Viola (Sewell) Winters.

JH was a proud graduate of Coweta High School, class of 1948. Shortly after graduation, he felt the call to serve his country and enlisted in the United States Air Force on December 28, 1950. JH served with honor and distinction until his honorable discharge on December 22, 1954. His time in the military instilled in him a deep sense of duty and respect for his country, values he carried with him throughout his life.

Following his military service, JH found his calling as a pharmacy technician at Saint Francis Hospital in Tulsa, OK. His dedication to his work was evident in the many years he spent in this role, providing care and support to countless patients until his retirement.

On April 24, 1953, JH married the love of his life, Yolanda Pedro Winters. Their love story spanned over seven decades, marked by shared laughter, mutual respect, and a deep, enduring love. Together, they built a beautiful family, leaving behind a legacy that will be cherished by all who knew them.

JH had a zest for life that was evident in his many interests. He was an avid baseball fan, a passion he channeled into his role as the City of Coweta Sports Booster Club President and his induction into the Coweta baseball Hall of Fame. He also enjoyed gardening, dancing, playing the harmonica, and genealogy.

JH is survived by his six children, Marilyn Helsley of Sealy, TX, Marlena Winters of Coweta, OK, Marty Winters and wife Vicki of Bixby, OK, Michael Winters of Coweta, OK, Marvin Winters and wife Debbi of Coweta, OK, and Mark Winters of Muskogee, OK. He was also a beloved grandfather to 16 grandchildren, great-grandfather to 27 great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandfather to 4 great-great-grandchildren. He also leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews.

JH was preceded in death by his wife, Yolanda Winters; his parents, John Howell Winters, Sr. and Mary Viola Winters; his son, Mickey Winters; and three siblings, Polly Bates, Joyce Swanson, and Sammy Winters.

A memorial service celebrating JH's life will be held at 10:00 AM on Thursday, August 31, 2023, at the First Baptist Church in Coweta, OK, with Chaplain Roger Miller officiating.
