John Sherman Stockstill

John Sherman Stockstill was born January 24, 1942, in Tulare, CA. He graduated in the class of 1960 from Braggs High School, served in the US Navy from 1961-1965, then attended Central State and Northeastern State Universities, where he earned Bachelor's and Master's degrees, respectively. John married his bride, Penny on December 26, 1965. John resided in Broken Arrow, OK, where he worked for the school system there. He began as a counselor before he found his true calling as a middle school principal. He served as principal for Central Middle School and Sequoyah Middle School before retiring in 1993. He continued to teach at Metro Christian Academy and Catoosa High School as a math teacher. Surrounded by his family, John went to be with his Savior on December 22, 2018. He was preceded in death by his parents, Clyde and Mildred Stockstill. He is survived by his wife, Penny, their four children: Emily (Steve) Wasson, John (Shauna) Stockstill, Danny (Sarah) Stockstill, and Rebecca (Darren) Walker; eleven grandchildren: Jordan (Ashley) Wasson, Amy Wasson, Allison Wasson, Dylan Stockstill, Micah Stockstill, Lily Stockstill, Cobin Stockstill, Brinlee Stockstill, Emma Walker, Carter Walker, and Ava Walker, and two great-grandchildren, Aaliyah and Andrew Wasson. He is also survived by his brother Harold Stockstill, and sisters Thelma Terrell, Barbara Garrison, and Martha Ward. He was loved and will be missed by many. Viewing will be from 9:30 a.m. - 11:00 a.m. and services celebrating John's life will be at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, December 26, 2018 at Clearview Baptist Church in Broken Arrow, OK. Burial with military honors will be at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, December 27, 2018 at Fort Gibson National Cemetery in Fort Gibson, OK.
