John Allen Gwinnup

John Allen Gwinnup, a cherished father, grandfather, and friend, passed away in Tulsa, OK on Thursday, July 11, 2024, at the age of 81 years old. He was born on June 5, 1943, in Keosauqua, IA to Harold and Velma Irene (Tweety) Gwinnup. John's journey through life was marked by dedication, love, and a passion for the simple joys that make life so precious.

John's early years were spent in the heart of Iowa before moving to Fort Worth, Texas, at the age of six. He was a proud graduate of Castleberry High School, class of 1961. His thirst for knowledge and skill led him to Texas Christian University and later to Fort Worth College, where he earned an Associate degree in Mechanical Technology in 1963. John's professional life was a testament to his expertise and work ethic, as he served as a contract designer and draftsman for over 50 years, contributing to over 30 different companies across several states.

The summer of 1963 was a pivotal one for John, as he met the love of his life, Marie, at the Lone Star Drive-In. Their whirlwind romance led to marriage on August 3, 1963, and together they embarked on a 60-year journey filled with love, laughter, and the creation of a family that would become John's greatest pride. John and Marie's love story was one for the ages, a testament to their unwavering commitment to each other.

John is survived by his three loving daughters and their families: Angie and Sam Fisher of Broken Arrow, Ann and Kevin Dismang of Wagoner, and Jan and Travis Burr of Coweta. His legacy continues through his six grandchildren and their families: Vannessa and David Richey, Sean Fisher and Maddie Breedlove, Raegan Burr, Logan Burr, Zack Dismang, and Jake Dismang. John's life was enriched by the joy and accomplishments of his grandchildren, each of whom held a special place in his heart.

Preceding him in death were his beloved wife, Marie Gwinnup, his father, Harold Gwinnup, and his mother and stepfather, Velma Irene and Ray Brazille.

John's interests and hobbies were as diverse as they were passionate. An avid sportsman, he was ranked in the top 20 in the nation for table tennis in 1967-1968 and enjoyed playing tennis. His love for classic cars was evident in his prized 1967 Chevelle Malibu, which earned him over 100 trophies at car shows from 1991 until his passing. John was an active member of the Oklahoma Chevelle Owner's Association, sharing his enthusiasm with fellow car enthusiasts.

A man of faith, John was a member of the First Baptist Church in Coweta, where he found strength and community. His faith was a cornerstone of his life, providing comfort and guidance through all of life's seasons.

Services celebrating John's life will be held at 2:00 PM on Wednesday, July 17, 2024, at Brown Funeral Home Chapel in Coweta, OK. John will be laid to rest next to his wife, Marie, at Vernon Cemetery in Coweta, OK, where they will be together once more.
