Joe Mason

Joe Mason, age 93, longtime resident of Coweta departed this life on Wednesday, June 9, 2010 at Hillcrest Medical Center in Tulsa, OK. He was born on April 19, 1917 in Maple, OK to George and Mary Ann (Harris) Mason. Joe was a loving father, grandfather, and great grandfather to his family. Joe and Eunice Mulkey were united in marriage on September 8, 1943 in Tulsa, OK and they later divorced. He then married Helen King on March 10, 1973 in Tulsa, OK and she preceded him in death on August 17, 2003. Joe worked as a Detroit Diesel mechanic and shop manager at United Engines until his retirement in 1983. He also had a shop at his home where he worked as a brake specialist for many years. Joe was a member of the First Baptist Church of Broken Arrow. His hobbies included fishing, gardening, traveling, telling stories, doing church work, and being with his friends. Joe was preceded in death by parents, his wife, Helen, two brothers, and four sisters. Joe is survived by his three daughters, Joann Bergt and her husband, Gary, of Tulsa, OK, Judy Miller of Tulsa, OK, and Susan Mackey and her husband, Joey, of Beggs, OK; his three step-daughters, Maxine Leeson of Skiatook, OK, Cande Grove of Celina, TX, and Sherry Mendenhall, of Jay, OK; three grandchildren, Lisa Miller, Chris Burright, and Danielle Burrow; three great grandchildren, Bradley Howell, Caleb Burright, and Rylan Burrow; and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and a host of friends. Funeral services for Joe will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, June 14, 2010 at the First Baptist Church of Broken Arrow with Pastor Hobe Ewing officiating. Interment will follow at Vernon Cemetery in Coweta.
