Joan Shanklin

Joan Evelyn Shanklin of Coweta, age 81, a loving and caring mother, grandmother, great grandmother, great-great grandmother and aunt, passed away peacefully Thursday evening, August 15, 2013 at her home in Coweta, OK. Joan was born on November 12, 1931 in Drumright, OK and was the daughter of Arnold and Gladys (Huddleston) Walbridge. Joan and Clifford Shanklin were united in marriage on September 20, 1976 in Claremore, OK. She worked at McDonnell Douglas in Tulsa, OK for 20 years until she retired. Joan was a member of Lone Star Baptist Church in Coweta. She enjoyed fishing, cooking and spending time with her family. Joan is survived by 3 sons, James Henry of Coweta, OK, Kenneth Bacon of Tulsa, OK and David Shanklin of Tulsa, OK; 2 daughters, Susan Dossey of Broken Arrow, OK and Julie Tackett of Coweta, OK; 13 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; 2 great-great grandchildren; 2 nieces; and other relatives and friends. Joan was preceded in death by her husband, Clifford Shanklin, her parents, Arnold and Gladys Walbridge, 1 brother and 1 grandchild. The family will greet friends at the funeral home on Sunday afternoon, August 18, 2013 from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm. Funeral services for Joan are scheduled for 2:00 pm Monday, August 19, 2013 at Lone Star Baptist Church, 10610 S. 353rd E. Ave., Coweta, OK. The Rev. John Curtis will officiate the service. Burial will follow in Vernon Cemetery in Coweta, OK. Pallbearers are Timmy Ellis, John Henry, Chris Henry, Kenny Bacon, Logan Bacon, Kevin Appleby, Wesley Appleby and Wes Eddy.
