Jim L. Murphy, Sr., age 80, resident of Broken Arrow passed away peacefully on Friday evening, October 10, 2014 at St. Francis Hospital in Tulsa, OK. He was born on April 19, 1934 in Broken Arrow, OK to Fred and Anna Mae (Weeks) Murphy. Jim was a 1949 graduate of Union High School in Tulsa, OK. He was a proud veteran of the United States Navy, serving from May 21, 1956 to May 15, 1958. He and Sarah Ann White were united in marriage on August 3, 1956 in Tulsa, OK and she preceded him in death on August 14, 2014. Jim worked at Ingersoll Rand as a Field Service Technician until he retired and he also owned and operated Murphy's Transmission Shop. He was a member of Grace Free Will Baptist Church in Broken Arrow. He enjoyed pitching horse shoes, playing the guitar, tinkering with cars, spending time with his family and he was a big jokester. Jim was preceded in death by his wife, Sarah Ann Murphy, his parents, Fred and Anna Mae Murphy, 2 brothers, George and Floyd and 2 sisters, Frankie and Patricia. Jim is survived by 6 children, Jim Murphy, Jr. and wife, Apryl, of Broken Arrow, OK, Fred Murphy and wife, Stacey, of Tulsa, OK, Melanie Sipperly and husband, Scott, of Tulsa, OK, Mark Murphy and wife, Rhonda, of Coweta, OK, Mike Murphy and wife, Katrina, of Coweta, OK and Gary Murphy and wife, Kim, of Coweta, OK; 13 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; special cousin, Jana Sunderland; and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Viewing will be from 9 AM - 8 PM on Monday, October 13, 2014 at Wright-Brown Family Funeral Home with the family greeting friends from 5 PM - 7 PM. Funeral services celebrating the life of Jim will be at 10 AM on Tuesday, October 14, 2014 at Grace Free Will Baptist Church in Broken Arrow, OK with Pastor Mike Hutsell officiating. Committal prayers and interment will follow in Vernon Cemetery in Coweta. Pallbearers are Mitchell Murphy, Travis Sipperly, Spencer Murphy, Daniel Price, Jake Kerr and Jerry Wayne Denton.
