Jessie Albert Mitchell, age 83, passed away peacefully at his home in Inola, OK, on Tuesday evening, July 16, 2024, with his loving family by his side. He was born on January 14, 1941, in Wagoner, OK to Cecil Harvey and Dora (Friend) Mitchell. Jessie's life was a testament to the values of hard work, dedication, and the importance of family.
Jessie grew up in Wagoner, where he attended school and graduated from Wagoner High School in 1959. After graduation, he began working on the family farm in Inola, a job that instilled in him a lifelong love for the land and the outdoors. Jessie's work ethic was further exemplified in his long-standing career at Safeway/Homeland Grocery Store, where he served the community as a stocker for 43 years until his retirement. Additionally, he started and owned Frontier Fence Company for 10 years, showcasing his versatility and commitment to providing for his family.
On April 29, 1961, Jessie married the love of his life, Margaret Ruby Mitchell. Their union was blessed with over six decades of love, laughter, and shared memories. Together, they raised a beautiful family. Jessie's role as a family man was central to his life, and he took great joy in spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, whose lives he enriched with his wisdom and kindness.
Jessie's interests and hobbies reflected his love for the simple pleasures in life. He was an avid fisherman, relishing the tranquility of the water and the thrill of the catch. His passion for the outdoors was also evident in the hours he spent riding his tractor, a pastime that allowed him to connect with the land he so dearly loved. Jessie also loved working cows and telling stories to everyone.
A man of faith, Jessie was a member of the Church of Christ at Whispering Hills in Broken Arrow, OK. His spiritual life was a cornerstone of his existence, providing him with guidance and strength throughout his journey.
Jessie was preceded in death by his parents, Cecil Harvey and Dora Mitchell and his daughter, Margie Mitchell.
His legacy continues through his beloved wife of 63 years, Margaret Ruby Mitchell of the home in Inola, OK; his sons, James Mitchell and wife Belinda of Broken Arrow, OK, Bryant Mitchell and wife Becky of Broken Arrow, OK, Stanley Mitchell and wife Kina of Sand Springs, OK; his daughter, Ettalee Champlain of Broken Arrow, OK; his grandchildren, Whitley Guey and husband Jordan, Raelee Caldwell, Keaton Caldwell, Jaylee Champlain, Aaron Mitchell, Joshua Mitchell, and Dakota Mitchell; his great grandchildren, Jayce Guey, Jacoby Guey, Kaegen Figueroa, Tyler Figueroa, Londen Yi, Asher Yi, and Paris Yi; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Jessie's life was a beautiful example of integrity, devotion, and the joy that comes from a life well-lived. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him, but his legacy will continue to inspire and guide us for generations to come.
Visitation for Jessie Albert Mitchell will be held from 4:00 to 6:00 PM on Sunday, July 21, 2024, at Brown Funeral Home in Coweta, OK. Services celebrating Jessie's life will take place at 12:00 PM on Monday, July 22, 2024, at the Church of Christ at Whispering Hills in Broken Arrow, OK, with Dale Graham officiating. Jessie will be laid to rest at Floral Haven Memorial Gardens in Broken Arrow, OK.
