James "Jimbo" Edward Roberts, Jr.

James Edward Roberts, Jr., also known as Jimbo, passed away peacefully in his home in Coweta, Oklahoma, on November 26, 2023, at the age of 70. Born on December 24, 1952, to James Edward Roberts, Sr., and Betty Jean (Morton) Roberts, Jim was a man of many talents across numerous fields throughout his life.

In his early years, Jimbo graduated from Coweta High School in 1971 and went on to earn an associate degree in Industrial Electro Net’s from Oklahoma State University. His career journey took him through various fields. He worked in quality control for IBM, then in inspection for Memorex Telex. When Memorex Telex company moved their business to Dallas, he adapted, driving a truck into his thirties.

Jimbo’s enduring spirit led him to serve the nation during the time of the Vietnam War. He enlisted in the US Navy in 1974 and served as a cryptographer on the USS Harry E. Yarnell and the USS Belknap Missile Cruisers. His time in the Navy, challenging and rewarding, was a source of great pride.

In his late thirties, Jimbo discovered his passion for cosmetology. He attended Jenks Beauty College and upon graduation he opened "Jimbo's Barber Shoppe". With locations in Coweta and Haskell. He dedicated over three decades to his beloved clients before retiring. He was also enthusiastic about riding motorcycles. He enjoyed going on long motorcycle rides with friends.

Jimbo is survived by his niece Jeana Roberts of Wagoner, his nephews Jason Gillenwater of Vancleave, MS, Bryce Roberts of Coweta, Tony Roberts of Tulsa, and his sister, Karen Roberts. He is further survived by numerous friends and loyal clients from his barber shoppe. He was preceded in death by his brother, Terry Wayne Roberts, and his parents.

In sum, Jimbo was a fascinating individual. His life serves as a testament to his resilience, determination, his wide range of interests, kindness and above all, his unwavering dedication to his professions and his loved ones.

Jimbo’s family are honoring his wishes to be cremated and will hold a memorial service at a later date.
