James Edward "Ed" Greene

Coweta

James Edward “Ed” Greene, age 83, lifelong resident of Coweta entered into the Gates of Heaven on Wednesday evening, March 22, 2023 at his home in Coweta, Oklahoma surrounded by his family.  Ed was born on September 29, 1939 in Coweta, Oklahoma to Carl Edward and Rosie Bell (Murray) Greene.  He was a 1957 graduate of Coweta High School.  Ed married the love of his life, Thelma Jean Turnbow on May 18, 1957 in Coweta, Oklahoma.  He owned and operated the Phillips 66 Station from 1965-1972, Ed Greene Auto Parts Store from 1972-1994, and Ed Greene Wrecker Service.  He was the Coweta Fire Chief from 1968-1982.  Ed loved his hometown of Coweta.  He very much loved his family and loved spending time with them.  He had his own unique way of making everyone feel loved and cared for.  Ed was always there when you needed him.  He was a longtime member of the First Baptist Church in Coweta.  He was also a member of the Coweta Round-Up Club and the Oddfellows Lodge.  He enjoyed gardening, camping, traveling, watching his grandchildren play sports, fishing, and hunting, especially for pheasant in South Dakota every year.

Ed is survived by his wife of 65 years, Thelma Greene of the home in Coweta, Oklahoma; his son, Rick Greene and wife Lorrie of Coweta, Oklahoma; his daughters, Donna Kelley and husband Tim of Coweta, Oklahoma and Jana Jackson and husband Bill of Coweta, Oklahoma; his sister, Pauline Hewitt and husband Stan of Coweta, Oklahoma; his brother, Johnnie Greene and wife Johnnie Lou of Coweta, Oklahoma; six grandchildren, Ryan Greene, Calen Bury and husband Michael, Rayna Gill and husband Austin, Joshua Jackson, Katie Kelley, and Callie Jackson; six great grandchildren, Tyler Bury, Kole Bury, Chase Bury, Lakely Bury, Asher Gill, and Reese Gill; and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

Ed was preceded in death by his parents, Carl Edward and Rosie Bell Greene, his sisters, Nina Belle Wise and Helen Mullins Appleby, and his brother, Clifford Greene.

Visitation will be from 9:00 AM – 8:00 PM on Monday, March 27, 2023 at Brown Funeral Home in Coweta, Oklahoma with the family present from 5:00 – 7:00 PM.  Services celebrating Ed’s life will be at 10:00 AM on Tuesday, March 28, 2023 at the First Baptist Church in Coweta, Oklahoma with Dr. Vern Charette officiating.  Ed will be laid to rest at Vernon Cemetery in Coweta, Oklahoma.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of Ed to First Baptist Church Coweta Improvement Fund,15296 State Highway 72, Coweta, Oklahoma 74429.
