Coweta

James “Buck” Meehan was born in Tulsa, Oklahoma on March 24, 1940 to Lloyd E. Meehan and Lilly May (Wilson) Meehan.  He graduated from Central High School in 1959.  He attended Oklahoma State University for two years but went on to Tulsa University to graduate with a Business Accounting degree in 1965.  He met the love of his life, Judith Kay Shieldnight in 1961 and the two were married at the First Christian Church in Coweta, Oklahoma on June 2, 1962.  Their first child, Doug, was born in 1965 followed by their daughter, Janet in 1969.  Wade was born in 1971.  Buck worked for Texaco, PSO, Pepsico and Watkins Truck Leasing in Atlanta, Georgia.  In 1972 Buck and Judy moved back to Oklahoma and started and ran Hilltop Sod Farms for the next 33 years.  Buck served as the President of the North Eastern Oklahoma Evangelistic Association in 1972 and helped start several new Christian churches over the next few years.  Over the next 20 years he grew over 1,000 acres of sod in Choska Bottoms where he eventually built Hilltop Golf Course with the help of his adult children.   In the late 80’s Buck became interested in planes and became a pilot and in 1989 opened Hilltop Aviation where he bought and sold airplanes from Haskell Airport with his son, Doug. During this time, Buck served as the founding president of the Coweta Optimist Club.   In 1990, Buck ran for the Oklahoma State Senate.  He won the primary, however, narrowly lost the general election.   In 1990 Buck became a real estate broker and started Hilltop Real Estate.  He served as a Coweta School Board Member for 17 years and was a member of the First Christian Church.  Between 1992 and 2002 Buck and Judy had thirteen grandchildren.  In 2006 he retired from Hilltop and enjoyed fishing, barbequing and spending time with his family.  However, his favorite pastime was spending time with Judy.

Buck was preceded in death by his parents, Lloyd E. Meehan and Lilly Mae (Wilson) Meehan, a sister, Rena Walton and her husband Don Walton and their daughter Julie Walton, as well as infant twin sons.

Buck is survived by his wife, Judy; their three children, Doug Meehan (and wife Kristy), Janet Dotson (and husband Tim) and Wade Meehan (and wife Julie); thirteen grandchildren, Andrew Dotson (and wife Yukari), Boe Meehan (and significant other Jamie), David Dotson (and wife JoAnna), Brady Meehan, Ariel Dotson, Landen Steinbrecher, Logan Steinbrecher, Logan Meehan, Bryce Meehan (and fiancé Maddie), River Meehan (and significant other Manny), Luke Meehan, Conner Meehan (and fiancé Marylee) and Jenna Meehan; one great grandchild, Kai Jon Dotson; as well as a host of family and friends.
