James David Mcdonald

October 29, 1924 — January 15, 2018

Rev. James David McDonald, Sr. (JD) was born October 29, 1924 in Broken Arrow, OK to Charles Albert & Josie Arizona. He had four sisters Flossie, Dee, Ellen, and Velma, and one brother, Charlie. He departed this life on Monday, January 15, 2018 at the age of 93 years, 2 months and 17 days.
While walking down the road one day, along came the most beautiful girl walking in the opposite direction. Her name was Betty Jane Brown. They were married on October 29, 1944 and had one daughter, Patty McDonald DeFries, Bixby, and two sons Jim McDonald and wife Brenda, of Glenpool, and Tom McDonald and wife Pat, of Del City. They had 58 wonderful years of marriage.
JD attended Bible Baptist College in Springfield, MO in the early 50's. He was an ordained minister and active in the various churches he attended by preaching or teaching classes. He was a dedicated individual who was passionate about the ministry and devoted to helping others. He officiated many family and friend weddings.
While in Hawaii, his main career was an electrician and he worked for the civil service where he finished his GED and took some college courses.
JD worked for the civil defense in Tulsa, which was a volunteer police department. He was a deputy working at sporting events, check points, or disasters, anywhere the civil defense was needed.
JD retired as an electrician and he and Betty managed a mini-storage in Tulsa for several years. After Betty retired, they moved to Pryor for a few years and then decided to become snowbirds. They bought an RV and to the road they went. They ended up spending many years in Mission, TX where JD taught Spanish and computer courses to the snowbirds. He was well loved by all in the snowbird community as well as everyone who knew him. He was preceded in death by his wife of 58 years Betty, his parents, siblings, one son-in-
law, Leroy, one granddaughter Diana, and one great granddaughter, Emma.
JD is survived by his three children, 10 grandchildren, 31 great grandchildren, 6 great, great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and loved ones.
There will be a visitation with family from 5-7pm, Thursday, January 18, 2018 at the Kennedy Funeral Chapel at 202 E. Oak St in Catoosa, Oklahoma. Services will be 10:00am, Friday, January 19, 2018 at Heatherridge Baptist Church, 6901 E 91st St, Tulsa, Oklahoma. Services are under the direction of Kennedy Funeral and Cremation, 918-599-
