James Michael "Mike" Hayes

James Michael "Mike" Hayes, age 72, resident of Coweta went to be with his Lord and Savior on Friday morning, July 21, 2017 at St. Francis Hospital in Tulsa, OK. Mike was born on May 6, 1945 to James Dalton and Velma Lee (Brownfield) Hayes in San Francisco, CA. He was a 1963 graduate of Camden High School in San Jose, CA. After graduating, Mike attended Bacone Junior College where he played basketball and baseball. He then later graduated from Northeastern State University in Tahlequah, OK where he received his Master's Degree in Education. He married the love of his life, Polly Jean Bias on December 22, 1964 in Muskogee, OK. Mike was a basketball coach and teacher at White Oak High School, Bishop Kelley High School, Bacone Junior College, Berryhill High School and Coweta High School. He retired from Coweta High School in 2002 after 34 years of coaching and teaching. In his spare time, he enjoyed fishing, skiing, boating, camping, watching ESPN and listening to his son Wes and grandson Micah play music. Mike was preceded in death by his parents, 1 brother, Steve Hayes and 1 grandson, Jacob Lee Hayes. Mike is survived by his wife of 52 years, Polly Hayes of Coweta, OK; 1 daughter, Kelly Dawn Montgomery and husband, Ferrell of Wagoner, OK; 1 son, Wesley Michael Hayes and wife, Brandy of Haskell, OK; 1 sister, Sandra Lee Korgav and husband, Ibrahim "Abe" of Saratoga, CA; 7 grandchildren, Courtenay Doyle, Cory Rea, Katelyn Montgomery, Connor Montgomery, Chloe Montgomery, Micah Hayes and Madison Hayes; 6 great grandchildren, Aunnah Rosser, Paige Rosser, Khiler Doyle, Emma Croffut, Zoie Rea and Bryson Rea; niece, Ayse Buckland; nephew, Alan Korgav; and numerous other nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Viewing will be from 10 AM - 8 PM on Monday, July 24, 2017 at Wright-Brown Family Funeral Home with the family present from 6-8 PM. Services celebrating Mike's life will be at 10 AM on Tuesday, July 25, 2017 at Coweta Assembly of God in Coweta, OK with Rev. Dan Beller officiating. Burial will follow in Vernon Cemetery in Coweta, OK. Pallbearers are Wesley Michael Hayes, Micah Hayes, Ferrell Montgomery, Connor Montgomery, Alan Korgav and Brian Greenhaw.
