James Copeland

James A. Copeland, age 85, of Porter passed to eternal life on Monday, July 21, 2008 at St. Francis Hospital South in Tulsa. James was born on August 5, 1922 in Wagoner County to Arthur J. and Sarah Emma (Darden) Copeland. He attended Coweta Public Schools. He was a veteran and served in the United States Navy. In 1942, James and Maencil Magar were united in marriage in Coweta, Oklahoma and she later preceded him in death. Then in 1958, he and Mary Thompson were united in marriage in Lake Havasu, Arizona and she later preceded him in death. James moved to Coweta from San Diego, California in 1998. James was a machinist at General Dynamics Aeronautics for thirty-five years until his retirement in 1983. Before he was a machinist, he owned and operated Jim's Auto Repair in Sand Springs, Oklahoma. James was of the Baptist faith and he enjoyed playing music in his band. He will be greatly missed by all that knew him. He is survived by his son, Jim Copeland and his wife, Shin, of Tulsa; his daughter, Doris Vaughn and her husband, Jack, of Porter; his step-son, Walter Thompson of Poway, California; his sister, Delphia Williams of Broken Arrow; eight grandchildren; five great grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; other relatives and a host of friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, his two wives, and one sister. Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, July 24, 2008 at Wright Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Steve Loveless officiating. Committal prayers and interment will follow at Vernon Cemetery under the direction of Wright Funeral Home in Coweta.
