James William “Buddy” Brunson, age 85, resident of Hulbert went to be with his Lord and Savior on Wednesday evening, June 9, 2021 at his home in Hulbert, Oklahoma. Buddy was born on February 2, 1936 in Scottsdale, Arizona and was the son of Clyde A. and Dolly Lee (Cabe) Brunson. He attended school at Hayes Chapel in the Choska Bottoms. Buddy married the love of his life, Mary Helen Naugle on January 3, 1958. He worked at Chandler Materials as a bulldozer operator for 8 years and Braden Winch as a tool crib attendant for 35 years until he retired in 1998. Buddy was a member of Hillcrest Freewill Baptist Church in Wagoner, Oklahoma. He loved playing the guitar and singing gospel songs.
Buddy is survived by his wife, Mary Helen Brunson of the home; three children, Charlene Abel and husband Audie, Naomi Jamison and husband Charlie, and Bart Brunson; four sisters, Effie Brunson, Margie Lamberson, Ann Collins, and Kathy Tedder and husband John; two brothers, Gearld Brunson and wife Karen and Kenneth Brunson and wife Donna; eight grandchildren; eighteen great grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
Buddy was preceded in death by his parents, Clyde and Dolly Brunson; his stepmother, Maudie Brunson; two sisters, Fern Brunson and Marie Fredrick; and one brother, Dean Lunsford.
A memorial service celebrating Buddy’s life will be at 2:00 PM on Tuesday, June 15, 2021 at Hillcrest Freewill Baptist Church in Wagoner, Oklahoma with Charlie Jamison officiating. Buddy will be laid to rest at a private family interment at North Ray Cemetery in Hulbert, Oklahoma
