Jack Hensley

Jack Loy Hensley, age 93, of Coweta went home Wednesday, December 19, 2007 at his home. A long time resident of Coweta, OK, he had retired from Braden Winch, in 1980, where he was a machinist. Mr. Hensley was born on November 15, 1914 in Okmulgee, OK to Dr. J. W. (Doc) and Gertrude Hunter Hensley. He graduated from high school in Okmulgee, OK. He came to the Coweta in 1935 to work for the cotton company. He married June Humphrey September 3, 1938 in Coweta, OK. They were married 65 years when June preceded him in death November 5, 2003. Mr. Hensley served in the Navy from 1943 till 1946, including service in the Lucian Islands. In addition to his wife and parents, he is also preceded in death by a son, Jack Loy Hensley II, who died September 15, 1961 at 13 years of age, as well as a brother, T. Wayne Hensley and two sisters, Mildred Hepburn and Lucille Vernon. Survivors include two nephews, Dr. Jerry B. Talley, of Tulsa, OK and Joel Talley and his wife, Peggy, of Poteau, OK; two great nephews, Jim Hepburn of Oklahoma City, OK and Troy Talley of Edmond, OK; two great nieces, Trisha Pickle of Poteau, OK and TraeAnne Brisendine of Fort Smith, AR; and six great-great nieces and nephews. Also surviving are David and Judy Blair, Jack's longtime friends and caretakers, who were selfless in their service to Mr. Hensley for years. Other devoted caretakers are Shirley Crimmons, June Black, and Robette Johnson. Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 22, 2007 at the First Baptist Church in Coweta, OK with Rev. David Jones officiating. Committal prayers and interment will follow at Vernon Cemetery in Coweta, OK. Arrangements and services are under the direction of Wright Funeral Home. Pallbearers were Ronnie Martin, Kyle Stringer, Wayne Rowe, Ben Swanson, Mark Hatfield, and Dennis Hatfield. Honorary pallbearers will be Roy Martin and Bob Rundell. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts can be made to the First Baptist Church of Coweta.
