Irene Mabry, age 87 of Tulsa went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, May 30, 2021. She was born January 17, 1934 to Willis and Ruby Thompson in Gilmore, Oklahoma.
Irene attended McClure, Oklahoma Schools and married at age 21 to Elmer Mabry of Poteau and they moved to Hugo, Oklahoma and eventually ended up in Tulsa. She became the Food Service Supervisor at St. Francis Hospital and worked for 28 years until her retirement there. Irene accepted several part-time jobs before working fulltime at Tulsa Public Schools in Food Services. Her failing eyesight forced her into retirement from her position as the Cafeteria Supervisor at Carnegie Elementary School in Tulsa.
Irene was a long-time member of Glad Tidings Assembly in Tulsa and enjoyed singing in a ladies group there as well as weekly Bible studies. In her younger days she sang duets at church and even played the accordion. She also enjoyed bowling at one time and was most recently involved with a line dancing group known to go to different Nursing Homes to perform as well as other invited events.
Irene is survived by her only son, David Mabry (Lorrie Haworth) of Coweta; her sister-in-law, Wanda Thompson of Tulsa; her brother, Jr. Thompson (Argina) of Poteau; her sister-in-law, Debbie Thompson of Tulsa; her brother, J.W. "Dub" Thompson (Pauline) of Poteau; two half sisters, Betty Sue and Brenda Thompson; and five grandchildren, Shelby Hammett (Dan) of Connecticut and Colton Mabry of Connecticut, Peyton, Preston and Pearston Mabry of Coweta. She is also survived by a number of nieces and nephews.
Irene was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, J. T. and Joe Thompson; and her granddaughter, Stacia Mabry.
Irene was loved by many other family members and friends. She was fun-loving and outgoing, kind, and considerate. Irene will be greatly missed.
Services celebrating Irene’s life will be at 10:00 AM on Thursday, June 3, 2021 at Brown Funeral Home Chapel in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma with Pastor Jeff Byrd officiating. Irene will be laid to rest at 2:00 PM on Thursday, June 3, 2021 at Vaughn Memorial Cemetery in Gilmore, Oklahoma.
