Services celebrating the life of Imogene Holmes will be at 2:00 p.m. Friday, May 8, 2020 at the First Baptist Church in Coweta, OK with Pastor Mike Hughart officiating. Burial will follow in Vernon Cemetery in Coweta, OK. Viewing will be from 11:00 a.m. – 8:00 p.m. Thursday, May 7, 2020 at Brown Family Funeral Home.
Imogene Holmes, age 82, longtime Coweta resident went to be with her Lord and Savior Monday morning, May 4, 2020 at her home in Coweta, OK surrounded by her family. Imogene was born April 9, 1938 in Fairfax, OK and was the daughter of Henry F. and Altie Rose (Beathe) Hester. She attended Coweta Public Schools. Imogene met the love of her life, Billie Holmes and they were married on February 4, 1956 in Coweta, OK. She was a member of Lighthouse Tabernacle Holiness Church in Coweta. Imogene was a devoted homemaker who loved taking care of her family and she worked many years at Coweta Public Schools as a Substitute Teacher. She enjoyed gardening, sewing, quilting, embroidery, traveling, and she loved spending time with her family. Imogene also enjoyed organizing bikeathons for St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. She will be dearly missed by all that knew her.
Imogene is survived by 2 sons, Tony Holmes and wife Debbie of Coweta, OK and Gary Holmes and wife Tonda of Coweta, OK; 2 daughters, Rhonda Thompson of Coweta, OK and Cynthia Medlock and husband Jerry of Broken Arrow, OK; 1 sister, Geraldine Zimmerman and husband Titus of Haskell, OK; 1 brother, Lloyd Hester and wife Pat of Lost City, OK; 14 grandchildren; 28 great grandchildren; 3 great-great grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends.
Imogene was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, Billie Holmes; her parents, Henry F. and Altie Rose Hester; her son, Lonnie Holmes; her daughter, Cheryl Kay Holmes; her grandson, Brian Holmes; two brothers, Jerry and Frankie Hester; and her son-in-law, Ervin Thompson.
Pallbearers are Jeremy Thompson, Billy Holmes, Heath Holmes, Aaron Thompson, and Sam Thompson. Honorary Pallbearers are Chad Cate, Brent Terry, Mac Carver, and Kyle Bryan.
