Howard Doyle Johnson, age 69, departed this life on Wednesday, April 10, 2024, after a tragic accident in Coweta, Oklahoma. He was born on February 26, 1955, in Odessa, Texas to parents Horace Thomas “H T” Johnson and Beverly Jean (Dozier) Johnson.
Howard's laughter will echo forever in the hearts of his beloved family. He leaves behind son, Jacoby Johnson and his wife Lauren and son, Chad Johnson; his cherished grandchildren, Maren and Tessa Johnson; and his brother, Jim Johnson. He will also be fondly remembered by his nephews, Keith, James, and Daniel Johnson. Howard was preceded in death by his loving parents, "H T" Johnson and Beverly Johnson, who undoubtedly welcomed him with open arms.
A proud fireman and paramedic, Howard served the Odessa community with bravery and devotion. Beyond his service, he embarked on a successful entrepreneurial journey fulfilling a wide range of jobs from owning and operating the “Silver Dollar Café” on Fort Gibson Lake, to meter reading for the Rural Water District. He was not one to let challenges dampen his spirits; his sense of humor remained intact even when faced with legal blindness. His experimental cornea transplant was a testament to his indomitable will and zest for life.
An eccentric character, Howard relished in his unique hobbies, including an affection for gardening with a particular fondness for elephant ears, and spending serene hours fishing. His love of reading transported him to worlds far and wide, bringing a depth to his wit and storytelling.
Howard’s life was a cherished collection of "good moments." His legacy of laughter and joy will endure, inspiring all who had the pleasure of crossing paths with this remarkable man.
A memorial service celebrating Howard’s life will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, May 11, 2024 at Brown Funeral Home Chapel in Coweta, Oklahoma.
