Homer Earl Howard

December 6, 1926 — March 25, 2019

Homer Earl Howard, age 92, of Coweta was born on December 6, 1926 in Wagoner, Oklahoma and passed away on March 25, 2019 in Broken Arrow, after a brief illness. Earl was one of nine children born to Homer Earlen and Bertha Mae (Piersall) Howard of Wagoner. He was raised in the Wagoner area and attended school through the eighth grade at Pipeline School. He married Maxene White and they were married over 50 years. Together they raised two sons, Earl Lee Howard and Steven Ray Howard. Earl and Maxene were members of the First Christian Church in Coweta and he continued to attend regularly until he became ill. Earl worked for Jim Walter Home Construction before he changed jobs for a career in oil tank maintenance. He retired from Morton Construction in Coweta where he performed vehicle maintenance. Earl was an avid fisherman and gardener. He fished every day until just a few years ago and loved sharing his fish and vegetables with family and friends. He enjoyed fishing with his brother, Jim Howard and they always made sure there was plenty of fish for the traditional Howard family Christmas Eve fish fry. If one ever ate at the Green Parrot, chances are good that they had some of his tomatoes or onions. He was a regular customer at the Green Parrot for years and he often opened up restaurant to start the morning coffee. He enjoyed playing dominoes, bingo, and trying his luck playing red ball at the Hard Rock in Catoosa. He could cook a great pot of beans or vegetable stew, but he loved eating a chicken fried steak at the Fish Shack almost every day for lunch. One of his greatest joys in life were his four grandchildren and three great grandchildren, Jessica, Jason, Brooke, Ashley, Cassandra, Kyle, and Rollins. Earl was preceded in death by his wife, Maxene Howard; his parents, Homer and Bertha Howard; his brothers, Walter and Gene Howard; his sisters, Rosalee Garrison, Georgia Bell, Hazel Overall, and Faye Martin; and his nephews, Gerald Overall, John Overall, and David Flesher. He is survived by his loving family, sons, Earl Lee Howard and his wife Vivian of Coweta and Steven Ray Howard and his wife Suzanne of Coweta; seven grandchildren, Jessica Ewert and her husband Carl, Jason Howard and his wife Nicole, Brooke Howard, Ashley Howard, Cassandra Gombos, Kyle Gombos, and Rollins Howard; his brother, Jim Howard of Coweta; his sister, Ella Flesher and her husband Joe of Marietta, Georgia; four nephews; six nieces; and a host of great nieces, nephews, and extended family and friends. The family would like to thank the staff of Forest Hill Care and Rehabilitation, Reliant Rehabilitation, and Emerald Hospice for the wonderful care provided to our dad and papa. Viewing will be from 9:00 a.m. - 8:00 p.m. on Friday, March 29, 2019 at Brown Family Funeral Home with the family present to receive friends from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. Services celebrating Earl's life will be at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 30, 2019 at the First Christian Church in Coweta with Rev.
