Homer Nolan Beckham

Homer Nolen Beckham, age 84, of Coweta passed from this life on Monday, January 28, 2008. Nolen was born on October 26, 1923 in Hobart, Oklahoma to Homer J. and Maggie (Lomenick) Beckham. He graduated from Olive High School in Creek County, Oklahoma. He also attended Oklahoma A & M for 3 ½ years. He and Clara A. Harmon were united in marriage on July 27, 1946 in Stillwater, Oklahoma. They came to Coweta in 1947 from Stillwater. She preceded him in death. He was married to Helen Jahner on January 17, 1986 in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Nolen worked as a toll booth operator for the Oklahoma Turnpike Authority for 15 years until his retirement in 1985. He also worked as the manager at Coweta Coop until his retirement in 1968. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church. His hobbies included gardening, fishing, playing card games, and music. Survivors include his wife, Helen, of the home; three daughters, Nancy Brown of Wagoner, Oklahoma, Barbara Dodson and her husband, Ken, of Wagoner, Oklahoma, and Judy Young and her husband, Stan, of Tahlequah, Oklahoma; three step-sons, Carl Cummings and his wife, Licia, of Baltimore, Maryland, Ted Cummings and his wife, Mona, of Huntsville, Alabama, and Jim Cummings and his wife, Jeanette, of Durango, Colorado; four grandchildren, Holly Rhoades and her husband, Troy, of Cleveland, Oklahoma, Kevin Dodson and his wife, Lisa, of Coweta, Oklahoma, Kaycee Young of Austin, Texas, and Terry Young of Tahlequah, Oklahoma; ten step-grandchildren; four great grandchildren, Mackenzie and Mackiah Rhodes and Kaylee and Parker Nolen Dodson; and five step great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Homer and Maggie Beckham, his first wife, Clara Beckham, one brother, Walter Beckham, one sister, Lucille Whitehead, and one step-daughter, Eloise Popp. Funeral services were held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, February 1, 2008 at First United Methodist Church with Rev. Allen Carson officiating. Committal prayers and interment will follow at Vernon Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Wright Funeral Home. Pallbearers were his nephews, Danny Stefanapoulas, Leon Whitehead, John Beckham, Ned Elzo, Larry Elzo, Robert Beckham, and Ted Whitehead. Honorary pallbearers will be Olan Chance, Carl Sisney, Kenneth Myers, Jack Henderson, Louis King, Sonny Harp, and Ronnie Martin.
