Herbert Leroy Pickett, II, known affectionately by friends and family as Herb, passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, February 7, 2024, in Coweta, Oklahoma. He was born on June 22, 1945, in Big Springs, Texas, Herb's zest for life and service to his country and community marked his 78 years.

Married to Jeannie Pickett on October 10, 2010, Herb found true companionship and love which he cherished until his last breath. Jeannie remains in Coweta, the home filled with memories of their shared joys. Alongside Jeannie, Herb leaves behind a loving family: his daughter, Krissy Gillis and her husband Neal of Broken Arrow; his son, Bobby Pickett and his wife Fallon of Coweta; his stepsons, Jeff Davis and his wife Angie of Delaware, and Randy Davis of Tulsa. His legacy will live on through his grandchildren, Ashten Ladd, Jaycer Gillis, Maverick Pickett, Noah Fleetwood, Tristyn Nelson, his brother, Brian Michael Pickett, his niece, Stephanie and Jeremy Pike, as well as numerous great-grandchildren and other extended relatives. Herb was preceded in death by his parents, Herbert Leroy and Darlene Evelyn Pickett.

Herb proudly graduated from Widefield High School in 1964 in Security, Colorado. After high school he served with valor and dedication in the US Navy, including time spent in Vietnam. He built a military career and in 1991 retired from serving as a drill instructor in Great Lakes, Illinois. He also dedicated his life to a career in law enforcement. He retired from serving as a police officer from Delaware County. His commendable service included time as the Chief of Police for the Colcord Police Department, followed by time as a patrolman investigator for the Siloam Springs Police Department.

Throughout life, Herb nourished a passion for traveling, fishing, hunting, camping, and most importantly family. He formed enduring friendships and contributed to the camaraderie and service of the Broken Arrow Elks Lodge and the Coweta Rolling Thunder Motorcycle Club. With great pride he escorted his fellow fallen veterans, and the Toys for Tots on this Trike.

Herb's life was a testament to dedication, service, and love for adventure. As the sun sets on a life well-lived, it also rises to greet the legacy Herb leaves, etched in the hearts and memories of all who knew him.

A Commemorative Service of Herb’s life will be held at 12:30 PM on Tuesday, February 20, 2024, at the Fort Gibson National Cemetery, Fort Gibson, OK, where he will be laid to rest with military honors.
