Harold Herbert Wright, age 77, of Coweta passed away on Wednesday, September 1, 2010 at St. Francis Hospital South in Tulsa, OK. He was born on March 13, 1933 in Pawhuska, OK to Boyd E. and Esther (Davis) Wright. Harold was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather to his family. He attended school in Coffeyville, KS and at Santa Monica High School in Santa Monica, CA. Harold joined the United States Army on September 21, 1950 and was honorably discharged on September 22, 1953. He and Hazel (Hand) Sykes were married on July 18, 1974 in Miami, OK. Harold owned and operated the Wright Place Convenience Store in Hill City, SD for 20 years until he retired in 1995. After retiring in 1995, he and Hazel moved to Coweta, OK from Hill City, SD. He was a member of the Shahan Free Will Baptist Church in Coweta, OK and he was a member of the Hill City Chamber of Commerce. He was also a member of the Masonic Lodge in Hill City, SD and he was assistant mayor and city council member in Hill City, SD. His hobbies included fishing, hunting, and bowling. He is lovingly survived by his wife of 36 years, Hazel of the home; three sons, Heath Wright of Coweta, OK, Clay Wright of St. Louis, MO, and David Sykes of Elk Point, SD; two daughters, Theresa Nelendez of Rancho Cucamonga, CA and Diane Toner of Independence, KS; five grandchildren, Michael Eck, Clay Wright, Jr., Clint Wright, Devon Sykes, and Dylan Sykes; two great grandchildren, Cameron Matthew Wright and Isabella Ann Eck; and other relatives. He was preceded in death by his parents, one son, one brother, and three sisters. Funeral services for Harold will be at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 4, 2010 at Shahan Free Will Baptist Church in Coweta, OK with Rev. Lynn Moss officiating. Burial will be at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, September 7, 2010 at Fairview Cemetery in Coffeyville, KS.
