Grace Southern

Eunice Grace Southern, longtime resident of Coweta, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Thursday afternoon, July 21, 2011 at her home in Coweta, OK at the age of 89 years. Grace was born on October 13, 1921 in Coweta, OK to her parents, Ira Owen and Maud Alice (Sewell) Nichols. She attended school in Coweta and graduated salutatorian from Coweta High School in 1939. After graduating high school, Grace attended Business School in Tulsa, OK. She and Joseph Wayne Southern were married on July 14, 1941 in Tulsa, OK and he preceded her in death on March 28, 1995. Grace and Wayne owned and operated Coweta Drug for over 50 years until they retired in 1987. During WWII she was proud to be a "Rosie the Riveter" at McDonald Douglas Aircraft. She was a life-long, faithful member of the Coweta Church of God of Prophecy. Grace enjoyed sports, sewing, doing yard work, reading the newspaper, cooking especially her divinity and she really loved people. She was a loving and caring wife, mother, sister, grandmother, great grandmother, aunt and friend. Grace is lovingly survived by her daughter, Carol Ann Southern & (Kelly Louis Seale) of Coweta, OK; her son, Kendall Wayne Southern & (Kayla Lakin-Southern) of Broken Arrow, OK; her sister, Alma Lea Phillips of Coweta, OK; her three grandchildren, Craig Southern, Brady Southern and Hannah Southern; her two great grandchildren, Rylee Ann Southern and Ella Marie Southern; one niece, five nephews and other relatives. Grace was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, her mother-in-law, Bonnie Thompson, one sister, Irma Shaw, five brothers, Earl, Gene, Ralph, Jack, Billy Joe and two nephews, Gary and Blake. The family will be present at a visitation on Monday evening, July 25, 2011 from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. Funeral services for Grace will be at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, July 26, 2011 at the Church of God of Prophecy in Coweta, OK with Pastor Larry Duncan and Pastor Robert Shaw officiating. Interment will follow at Vernon Cemetery in Coweta. Pallbearers are Rick Phillips, Mike Phillips, Craig Southern, Mark Nichols, Mark Hatfield and Ed Rutherford. Honorary Pallbearers are Brady Southern, Kelly Seale, Robert Shaw, Dale Nichols, Audrey Nichols-Griffin and Dennis Hatfield.
