Gladys Robbins

In the winter of 1930, Amzie and Josephine Robbins were blessed with a new addition to their family in Wagoner County, Oklahoma. This new addition, a daughter arrived on January 31st and was given the name Gladys Marie. Gladys began her education in the public school system of Wagoner, Oklahoma. She graduated from the historic Lincoln High School, with the class of 1947. She then matriculated to Langston University, where she earned her Bachelors of Science Degree from Langston University and then subsequently earned a Master's Degree from Northeastern State University. In addition, in her quest for more knowledge Gladys continued her education by attending Oklahoma State University, University of Oklahoma and Tulsa Community College. Throughout her life, she served the Lord faithfully. As a teenager, she was baptized at the Flat Rock Baptist Church in Wagoner County. Gladys continued her service to the Lord as a member of the First Baptist Church of Wagoner and for over 58 years she served her church in numerous capacities having faithfully attended until her death. Gladys was a community oriented individual who was known by everyone in Wagoner, she served more than 20 years on the Wagoner Public Library Board and in 2004 to recognize her faithful dedication to her community Mayor Josh Hughes named November 14, 2004 as "Gladys Robbins Day". In addition, she was a proud, loving and dedicated teacher for over 43 years, having taught at Bartlesville, Tullahassee, Gibson Station, Lincoln and Wagoner Middle School. She retired from the Wagoner Public School system in 1995. Gladys Marie passed away peacefully on Tuesday, January 1, 2013. She leaves to cherish her memories; one sister, Elsie R. Fields of Newburg, New York and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives and a host of friends. Gladys was preceded in death by her parents and 14 brothers and sisters. A Homegoing Celebration is scheduled for 11:00 AM Wednesday, January 9, 2013 at First Baptist Church, 800 S. Martin Luther King Ave., Wagoner, OK. Burial will follow in Elmwood Cemetery in Wagoner, OK.
