Geraldine Faye "Gerry" Griffin, a resident of Broken Arrow, passed away Sunday evening August 26, 2018 (age 87) after a short illness. Gerry was born on Wednesday, November 19, 1930 to Charley Benjamin "CB" Addy and Josephine Belle "Josie" Wickett in Warner, Muskogee County, Oklahoma. Gerry was the youngest of 3 siblings. Gerry attended school in Warner, graduating May 14, 1948 from Warner High School. While attending Warner High School she was a standout basketball player, obtaining many honors. She attended Connors Junior College earning her Associate degree in 1952, then went on to earn a Bachelor's degree in Education from Northeastern State College in Tahlequah, Oklahoma. Following graduation in 1954, her first teaching job was at Webber Falls, OK teaching Home Economics 9th thru 12th grades. Continuing her teaching career for 32 years at the following schools - Gilbert, Arizona, Bristow, Jenks and, Kellyville, OK and retiring in May 1992 from Northwest Elementary school in Coweta, OK. Gerry's friends Erma and Jake Tarkington introduced her to a very handsome young man named Harold Griffin. Gerry married Harold Dee Griffin on July 3, 1958 in Warner, OK. They were married for 54 years. Gerry enjoyed sharing her knowledge of the bible by teaching Sunday school at First Baptist Church in Coweta. Gerry was a true teacher at heart, if not teaching her students, she was teaching her children in all aspects of their lives. She attended all her children's, grandchildren's and great grandchildren's sporting and school events. She helped her daughter Deena with playing basketball and would coach Greg's baseball team by hitting infield when Harold could not get off work in time to coach. Gerry was a coach as well as being a hands-on parent. Gerry and Harold spend many hours camping, fishing and boating on the surrounding lakes with many of their siblings, nieces and nephews. Gerry enjoyed waterskiing and spending many hours in the water helping anyone who wanted to learn how to ski. Gerry also enjoyed spending many hours reading bible lessons, camping, RVing, and spending time with her children, grandchildren and family. Gerry was preceded in death by her husband, Harold Griffin, parents, CB and Josie Addy, her brother, Charley Addy, Jr., sister, Betty Overbey-Gardner, sister-in-law, Mary Addy-Glover, brother-in-laws, W.C. "Dub" Overbey and Glen Gardner, and her nephew, James "Shawn" Overbey. Gerry is survived by her daughter, Deena Lormer and husband, Richard of Coweta, OK; a son, Greg Griffin and wife, Brenda of Broken Arrow, OK. Along with 4 beloved grandchildren, Matthew Lormer and wife, Melanie of Tulsa, OK, Andrea Lormer-Childress and husband, Kevin of Coweta, OK, Eric Griffin and wife, Amanda Adams of Broken Arrow, OK, and Keeley Griffin of Broken Arrow; great grandchildren, Aidan Shieldnight, Kameron Childress, Alixandria Lormer, Reid Lormer, Dylan Griffin, and Shawn Griffin; brother-in-law, Philip Griffin and wife, Reba of Houston, Texas; sister-in-laws, Joyce (Griffin) Reeder, Dorothy Griffin of Mustang, OK, Virgina Griffin of Tulsa, OK, and Kaye Mayes of Plano, TX; along with many nieces, nephews, other family members, and friends. Visitation will be from 11:00 AM to 8:00 PM on Wednesday, August 29, 2018 at Brown Family Funeral Home with the family present to receive friends from 6:00 - 8:00 PM. Services celebrating Gerry's life will be at 11:00 AM on Thursday, August 30, 2018 at the First Baptist Church in Coweta, OK with Pastor Bob Green officiating. Graveside service will follow at 2:30 PM at Warner Memorial Cemetery in Warner, OK. Family and friends may share memories online at www.brownfamilycares.com.
