George H. Gilbert, son of Thomas Edgar and Tealey (Snelson) Gilbert was born on August 18, 1928 in Coweta, Oklahoma. He entered into the Gates of Heaven on Monday afternoon, December 26, 2022 at St. John Medical Center in Tulsa, Oklahoma at the age of 94 years.
George is survived by his daughters, Vicky and husband Ron Sutter of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma and Kathy Keith of Coweta, Oklahoma; his son, Harold and wife Carol Gilbert of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma; 7 grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren; 10 great-great grandchildren; and numerous other relatives. George was preceded in death by his wife, Thelma Juanita Gilbert, his parents, Thomas Edgar and Tealey Gilbert, 3 brothers, and 5 sisters.
George and Juanita loved traveling and during the course of their marriage they visited all but 3 states. George was a proud veteran of the United States Army. He enlisted in the Army on March 27, 1947 and was honorably discharged on October 22, 1949. George was a truck driver at Safeway for 36 years until he retired in 1987. He loved raising cattle, gardening, fishing, and watching golf. He was a Cardinal baseball fan and he loved eating breakfast. He will be missed by all that knew and loved him.
Visitation will be from 5:00 – 7:00 PM on Wednesday, December 28, 2022 at Brown Funeral Home in Coweta, Oklahoma. Services celebrating George’s life will be at 1:00 PM on Thursday, December 29, 2022 at Clearview Baptist Church in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma with Joey Keith officiating. Burial with full military honors will follow at Vernon Cemetery in Coweta, Oklahoma. Pallbearers are Justin Gilbert, Jared Gilbert, Brandon Gilbert, Chris Sutter, Jimmy Sutter, and Harold Gilbert. Honorary Pallbearers are Joey Keith, Skyler Walker, and Kevin Howard.
