Gene Holmes

Gene Allen Holmes, age 83, of Coweta, OK passed away at St. Francis Hospital in Tulsa, OK on Monday, August 12, 2013. He was born on September 6, 1929 in Broken Arrow, Ok to Charley D. and Lilly (Brown) Holmes. Gene graduated from Broken Arrow High School in 1949. Gene joined the United States Army on January 31, 1951 and was honorably discharged on October 8, 1956. Gene and Ima D. Wright were married on June 29, 1979 at Lone Star Baptist Church in Broken Arrow, OK. He worked as a salesman for Eve Chemicals until his retirement in 1995. He then drove a school bus for Coweta Public Schools. He attended Lone Star Baptist Church. He enjoyed fishing, camping, traveling, and eating out with his friends on Friday night. Survivors include Ima D. of the home; three sons, Larry Terry and his wife, Joyce of Coweta, OK, Terence Terry and his wife, Brenda of Coweta, OK and Shawn Holmes of Broken Arrow, OK; three daughters, Janice Price and her husband, Dan of Wagoner, OK, Patsy Foster and her husband, Rick of Coweta, OK, Patty Martin and her husband, Ronnie of Coweta, OK; two sisters, Billie Fisher of Coweta, OK and Connie Johnson of Monett, MO; 16 grandchildren; 30 great grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Gene was preceded in death by his parents, one son, Brian Terry, two grandchildren, and one great grandchild. Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 pm Friday, August 16, 2013 at Lone Star Baptist Church in Coweta, OK with Pastor Sam Davis and Bob Shoemake officiating. Burial will follow in Vernon Cemetery in Coweta. Pallbearers are Shawn Terry, Terry Foster, Greg Foster, Ben Foster, Rusty Martin, Josh Terry, Justin Terry, Jeffery Terry and Brent Terry.
