Fred Eugene Baldridge, age 89, resident of Broken Arrow, passed away peacefully on Tuesday evening, November 19, 2024, at St. Francis Hospital in Tulsa, OK. He was born on June 19, 1935, in Okemah, OK to Wilburn James and Leora (Rice) Baldridge. Fred's journey through life was marked by his devotion to God, to his family, service to his country, and a deep love for music and the outdoors.
Fred graduated from Nuyaka High School in Nuyaka, OK. He furthered his education at Oklahoma State University Tech, earning his Associate's Degree in 1963. His commitment to his country was evident when he enlisted in the United States Army on January 8, 1957. He served honorably until his discharge as an SP4 on November 13, 1959.
Professionally, Fred dedicated 31 years as a Relay Technician for the Public Service Company of Oklahoma, retiring in 1994. His work ethic and dedication to his role were admired by all who worked alongside him.
Fred's heart found its match when he married the love of his life, Betty Margaret Starkey, on September 29, 1962, in Okmulgee, OK. Together, they built a life filled with love, laughter, and music. A longtime member of Coweta Assembly in Coweta, Fred's faith was a guiding light in his life. He found joy in reading his Bible and serving within his church community.
Music was one of Fred's greatest passions. He played the guitar with a joy that was infectious, performing with The Baldridge Family and band, Bluegrass Therapy. His love for music was only matched by his enthusiasm for OU football, a pastime that brought him much excitement and camaraderie.
An avid outdoorsman, Fred relished the time spent fishing, duck hunting, and mushroom hunting. He took pleasure in working outside and simply enjoying the beauty of nature. Above all, the moments he cherished most were those spent with his beloved wife, Betty, and their family.
Fred is survived by his wife, Betty Baldridge of the home in Broken Arrow, OK; his children, Betty Louise Baldridge and husband Kevin Olson of St. Louis, MO, Larry Eugene Baldridge and wife Heidi of Broken Arrow, OK, and Shelly Leora Waleska and husband Scott of Broken Arrow, OK. He also leaves behind his brothers, Arvil Baldridge and wife Retha of Moore, OK, and Rev. Bob Baldridge and wife Joyce of Ozark, MO, along with numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
