Frances Eloise Engel, affectionately known as Eloise, passed away peacefully at her home in Coweta, OK, on Saturday morning, July 6, 2024, at the age of 90 years. She was born on February 16, 1934, in Coweta, OK to James Evert and Sarah Iola “Fern” (Hendrix) Garrett.
Eloise grew up surrounded by the warmth of a large family and the values of community and faith. A proud graduate of Coweta High School in 1951, Eloise furthered her education at Northeastern State University in Tahlequah, OK.
Her professional path started at Kemp Hardware, but it was alongside her beloved husband, Dave L. Engel, whom she married on February 6, 1953, that she found her true calling. Together, they owned and operated Central Tag Agency in Broken Arrow, OK, for many years, where Eloise's hard work, integrity, and warm smile became a staple of the business.
Eloise's life was marked by her unwavering faith, and she was a devoted member of Shahan Free Will Baptist Church in Coweta. Her interests were many and varied; she found joy in the simple pleasures of life, such as watching "Wheel of Fortune," cheering on the OU softball team, and most importantly, spending precious time with her grandchildren, who were the light of her life.
Eloise's legacy is carried on by her loving family. She is survived by her two sons, Garry Engel and his wife Pam of Coweta, OK, and Mark Engel of Coweta, OK; her daughter, Annette Engel, of Coweta, OK; her five grandchildren, Dustin Engel, Jessica Segura (Jeff), Stormey Thompson (Aaron), Rachel Boni (Tim), and Nathan Scott (Ericca); and her fourteen great-grandchildren, Madison Kelley (Rien), Sitara Engel, Chesney Thompson, Noah Thompson, Liam Segura, AJ Segura, Amelia Segura, Xander Boni, Asher Boni, Jonathan Boni, Bella Boni, Michael Scott, Cohen Scott and Birdie Scott. The joy of Eloise's life was further multiplied by the arrival of her two great-great-grandchildren, Kolter Kelley and Kohen Kelley. She also leaves behind her brother, Billy Frank Garrett and his wife Dodie; sisters-in-law, Fran Garrett and Jean Garrett; and a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives who will miss her dearly.
Eloise was preceded in death by her husband, Dave L. Engel; her parents, James Evert and Sarah Iola “Fern” Garrett; her sister, Norma F. Boley; and her brothers, James Evert "Doc" Garrett and Ron Garrett.
Eloise's life was a testament to the power of love, the strength of family, and the importance of community. Her gentle presence and enduring spirit will be remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
