Flora Wofford

Flora Alice Wofford, age 98, longtime resident of Coweta departed this life on early Wednesday morning, May 26, 2010 at Coweta Manor Nursing Home. She was born on May 12, 1912 in Galena, Kansas to Charles and Mary (Swafford) Graves. Flora was a loving and caring mother, sister, and grandmother to her family. She came to Oklahoma in a covered wagon in 1924. Her family moved to a farm between Coweta and Haskell and worked as sharecroppers on a farm for several years. In 1929, she married Roy Hamilton and from that union came five children. Flora lived in and around Coweta and Haskell until 1959 when she moved to Muskogee. She trained to be a nurse's aide at the Muskogee General Hospital and continued in this profession working at Tower Hill Nursing Home until her retirement in 1980. Flora married Frank Wofford in 1968 and they had 15 years together before his death in 1983. Flora is lovingly survived by two sons, Bill Hamilton and his wife, Delores, of Coweta, OK and Lawrence Hamilton and his wife, Elmalene, of Bartlesville, OK; one daughter, Mary Darland of Wagoner, OK; one sister, Opal Hill of Turlock, CA; 13 grandchildren; 27 great grandchildren; 48 great-great grandchildren; 2 great-great-great grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives who were special to her in her life. Flora was preceded in death by her parents, both of her husbands, one son, one daughter, seven brothers, five sisters, two grandsons, and one granddaughter. Funeral services for Flora will be at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, May 28, 2010 at Wright Funeral Home Chapel in Coweta, OK with Rev. David Jones and Rev. Frances Burka officiating.
