Dr. Shirley Jean O’Dell, age 84, resident of Coweta went to be with her Lord and Savior on Friday morning, January 29, 2021 at her home in Coweta, Oklahoma surrounded by her family. Shirley was born on July 14, 1936 in Columbus, Kansas and was the daughter of Elmer B. and Lillie Leona (Griffin) Dale. She proudly served as a Registered Nurse in the United States Army. She married the love of her life, Charles Thomas O’Dell on December 23, 1959 in Colorado Springs, Colorado. Shirley obtained her Ph.D. in Counseling and was the Pastor of Overcomers Fellowship Church for 24 years. She was a member of the Coweta Assembly of God. She enjoyed traveling and going to the lake.
Shirley is survived by her two sons, Randy O’Dell and wife Lori of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma and Gary O’Dell and wife Tawnia of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma; two sisters, Florence Newport and husband Louie of Kansas City, Missouri and Frances Marks of Sebring, Florida; eight grandchildren; five great grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
Shirley was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Thomas O’Dell; her parents, Elmer B. and Lillie Leona Dale; and two brothers Eddie Dale and Bobby Dale.
Services celebrating Shirley’s life will be at 12:00 PM on Wednesday, February 24, 2021 at Brown Funeral Home Chapel in Coweta, Oklahoma. Interment with full military honors will follow in the Fort Gibson National Cemetery in Fort Gibson, Oklahoma. Pallbearers are Randy O’Dell, Gary O’Dell, Brayden O’Dell, Jeremy O’Dell, David O’Dell, and Matthew O’Dell.
