Doris Jean Powell, age 69, longtime Broken Arrow resident went to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Saturday morning, November 2, 2019 at her home Broken Arrow, OK surrounded by her family. Doris was born on September 1, 1950 in Tulsa, OK and was the daughter of Olin and Loraine (McGee) Gilliam. She received her education in Tulsa and then attended beauty school where she became a cosmetologist. Doris married the love of her life, Larry Thomas Powell. Doris was also a devoted homemaker who loved taking care of her family. She was a faithful member of Sunnyside Baptist Church in Broken Arrow where she was VBS Director and Missions Director for many years. She was involved with Good Samaritan Purse Shoebox Ministry and the Mission Service Corps. from 2004 to 2012. Doris enjoyed going to the lake, camping, dancing, cooking, canning, and going on trips to Branson, MO with her husband, Larry. Her family was her life and she loved spending time with them. Doris will be missed beyond measure, but not forgotten. She was loved by everyone and forever live on in our hearts. Doris is survived by her loving husband, Larry Thomas Powell of the home in Broken Arrow, OK; her son, TJ Powell and wife Kelie of Coweta, OK; her daughter, DD Bristol and husband Parris of Coweta, OK; ten grandchildren, Gavin, Hunter, Butch, Brittnee, Noah, Madalyn, Nathan, Dakota, Kyle, and Curtis; four great grandchildren, Harper, Kentley, Hudson, and PJ; two sisters, Jeannette Mize and husband Jim Bob of Kellyville, OK and Kay Jumper and husband John of Chelsea, OK; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends. Doris was preceded in death by her parents, Olin and Loraine (McGee) Gilliam; her son, Thomas Loren Powell; and two brothers, JR and Glen Gilliam. Services celebrating the life of Doris will be at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, November 7, 2019 at Sunnyside Baptist Church in Broken Arrow, OK with Rev. Roland Whitehurst officiating. Burial will follow in Fort Gibson National Cemetery in Fort Gibson, OK. Pallbearers are Butch Powell, Hunter Powell, Dakota Bristol, Kyle Payne, Curtis Payne, and Blake Roark.
