Donna Gail Shook, a nurturing light in the lives of all who knew her, passed away on Saturday, April 13, 2024, in Tulsa, Oklahoma. She was born on July 8, 1948, in Mooreland, Oklahoma. Donna was a source of kindness and joy throughout her 75 years.
Donna's life was anchored by her profound love for her family and the cherished moments she spent with them. She leaves behind a legacy of love with her devoted husband of 56 years, Earl Rodney Shook, whom she married on the 5th of August 1967, in Sharon, Oklahoma. Their union was blessed with two wonderful children, Sherry Catherine Pattee and her husband David, and son Rodney Brian Shook. She reveled in the joys of being a grandmother to grandchildren Trent David Pattee, Taylor Nicole Pattee, and Maddox Ryan Shook. Her siblings, Candy Wreath, Jerry Phillips, and Charlene Wheeler, along with her husband Chuck, will deeply miss her presence, guidance, and warmth.
Preceding Donna in death were her parents, Charles Lockwood Phillips, and Tommie Jo (Harrison) Vaca, as well as her three sisters Lena Whitten, Sandra Cooper, and Marie Phillips. Their memory was held in her heart, as will her memory be cherished in the hearts of those she leaves behind.
A 1966 graduate of Sharon High School and an alumnus of Northwestern State University in Alva, Oklahoma with a Bachelor's degree, Donna dedicated 35 years of her life to her vocation as an English and Literature Teacher at Woodward, El Reno and Durant Public Schools. She not only educated but inspired countless students, encouraging them to explore and embrace the beauty of language and story.
Beyond the classroom, Donna was an active and devoted member of the Wagoner Assembly of God and also served at El Reno Assembly of God. Her passion for her faith was evident in her role as the women's director and her unwavering commitment to volunteering. Donna lived out her faith by lovingly helping others and serving her community. A lover of literature, Donna's own story was one of joy in reading and an unending pleasure in the company of her beloved grandkids.
Donna Gail Shook's radiant legacy will forever be remembered by those who had the privilege of knowing her.
Services for Donna will be held at 2:00 pm on Thursday, April 18, 2024, at the Wagoner First Assembly of God Church in Wagoner, Oklahoma officiated by Rev. Tim Boyett. Graveside services will be held at 2:00 pm on Friday, April 19, 2024, at the North Persimmon Cemetery in Sharon, Oklahoma.
