Donald Ray Hobbs

Donald Ray Hobbs, age 82, also known to many as "Papa Don", longtime Coweta resident went to be with his Lord and Savior on Friday, June 21, 2019 at his home in Coweta, OK. Donald was born on January 2, 1937 in Imperial, CA and was the son of Jack Leroy and Ludie Mae (Taylor) Hobbs. He was a 1955 graduate of Coweta High School. He also attended Northeastern State University in Tahlequah where he received his Bachelor's Degree in Education. After graduating from Northeastern State University, he got drafted into the Army where he served two years. Donald married the love of his life, Barbara Sue Hughes on December 23, 1961 in Coweta, OK. He was an Elementary Teacher and began teaching in California and then moved back to Oklahoma and taught at Burroughs Elementary School in Tulsa and retired in 2011 from Mark Twain Elementary School in Tulsa. Donald also worked in the Automotive Department at Wal-Mart in Coweta for 15 years. He was a member of the First Christian Church in Coweta. Donald enjoyed building furniture, cooking, collecting die cast cars and coins. In his younger years, he enjoyed playing golf. He loved spending time with his family, especially with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. Donald is survived by his wife of 57 years, Barbara Hobbs of the home in Coweta, OK; 2 sons, Keith Hobbs and wife Polly of Coweta, OK and Brad Hobbs of Coweta, OK; 7 grandchildren, Angela Nichols, Robyn Spesert, Tabitha Flanning, Randy Hobbs, Amber Hobbs-Smith, Autumn Hobbs and Sabrina Hobbs; 13 great grandchildren, Abigail, Mark, Austin, Miley, Rachel, Jackson, Devon, Hailey, Zoey, Dorothy, Fahren, Johnny Jr. and Kelly; and other relatives and friends. Donald was preceded in death by his parents, Jack Leroy and Ludie Mae Hobbs. A memorial service celebrating Donald's life will be at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, June 28, 2019 at the First Christian Church in Coweta, OK.
